Do we just get on with it or do we stage a protest?

I'm not really into these protest things, but I genuinely can't decide at the moment, possibly because I'm hung over, angry and thus a bit irrational. Do we have to just accept things as they are or should we make some kind of a protest? Right now, I feel like staging a season ticket burning. I really would like to know whether anyone else feels equally torn.

  • what bloody good would it do.

go ahead and burn your season ticket mate and when we start winning again , which we will, you'll be the one going back to the club begging for yor ticket back.

They've made their decision , rightly or wrongly, just get behind the TEAM.
  • Have to agree with ledge there
  • No SA not now not in 2 weeks but i do feel if we lose of place in the chumpionship then yes we need to congregate and do something a little more serious than a ticket burning.

Right now we need to be together as one

    Board,Parky,Players, US
  • We've just got to get on with it. What exactly is a protest going to achieve eh? The board have already had your season ticket money, so it's not going to impact them financially unless you're a large consumer of the catering facilities inside the ground. Bad publicity? Well, it'll help fill column inches in the papers, but I doubt the board are that fussed about that right now.

In terms of our continued survival, the cup game's pretty much irrelevant, although if we win it might actually engender some confidence in the squad. Protesting before or during a vital relegation battle against Forest is monumentally stupid, and while it might be understandable to protest afterwards if we lose, we'll be nearly halfway through January by then. The chances of getting a better manager in after that, and in time to assess the strength of the squad before the transfer window closes is minimal.
  • the last thing we need to do is be divided. Holding a protest is only going to cause more problems imo. What sort of message does it send to the players if instead of getting behind them, we concentrate energies on moaning about the manager and board and everything else?

In relegation battles everyone needsto pull together not divide further.

Yes its not been a good season by any means, but we're not relegated yet, and instead of making things more difficult by protesting, lets get behind the team and manager in a similar way to whenever we've been in adversity before.
  • Got to get behind the team, I still have a feeling Parkinson if he can get the right players in they could really improve our team. He knows the problems we have, especially in midfield and up front.
  • If a potest forces the current Board into a quick sell rather than finding the RIGHT buyer then we'll be in a hell of a lot more trouble than we are currently in.
  • The time to demonsrate will be if and when we are relegated...until then we HAVE to give the guys our support...especially Parky...he's not my choice but the bloke needs all the help he can get right now, so we simply have no alternative other than to back him.
  • To be honest the only appropriate time to protest (if there is such a thing) was yesterday evening after the announcement. That has been and gone, and whether you agree, or disagree with his appointment, or are just resigned to the fact that we are likely to relegated, like others we will still turn up each week and watch.

Why? Because we're Charlton supporters. It's what we do best, follow our team through good times and bad, great master strokes and p*** poor decisions.
  • OK, I'll go and smash up a cushion instead and get ready to sing on Saturday. Thanks guys for calming me down.

  • Mate i am up for doing whayever is necessary should the worst happen, unfortunatly i dont think we are there yet,
  • 3 points against Forest and a late run into the playoffs...........Common
  • As I have said elsewhere the correct thing to do is to boo once when Parky's name is announced on Saturday to show what we think of the boards decision. After that as we are stuck with him we should get behind him until either a- we are relegated or b- we survive in which case we'll be cheering him.
  • I won't boo either. If I'm around when his name is read out, I'll clap to show my solidarity. I'm not saying that he would have been my first choice as manager but rightly or wrongly he has been picked for the job. To call yourself an Charlton supporter and do anything but support our new manager at the present time would be totally ridiculous, divisive, and could help contribute to putting us in an even worse position than we are already in.

Your thinking seems a bit muddled to me, Stubbsy
  • i am with stig i would be a stooopid thing to do imo
  • You guys are right.

Protesting of itself won't get us far. We have to have demands, which are realistic, and which would result in our club going in a better direction. And that's the trouble with the current situation, I can't work out what those demands would be right now. It was so much simpler when we just wanted to go back to the Valley....
  • I've got an idea !!! Why dont we all cheer on saturday instead and show the team (whatever one that may be) that we are behind them. Then we can win the match and that will boost confidence and kick start a climb up the table
  • or another idea why dont the team win and give us something to f**kin cheer

  • This is my take on it. I'm not asking for agreement. I'm not saying i'm right you're wrong. It's simply how Parky's appointment will affect my behaviour.
I did not want Parky to get the job, i felt a new strong manager was required. But we got Parky. I think we are almost certainly going to be relegated.
I've admitted in another thread i've stopped going to games because it's too depressing (i gave up my season ticket after last season's debacle)
I'm going to attend V Forest and again V Palace. I will get behind Parky and the team. If we get a win and a don't lose, that would be a good opening return for Parky, and for me he wins his second chance. If we lose both i'm done with him.
  • I'm with Uncle. You can stand around waiting for someone else (the players) or you can try and do something positive to try and get the outcome you want. There's no guarantee that it will work, but at least you can say you tried.

Hopefully Parky and the boys will come up with something to cheer, but if not why not try to give them a boost anyway. The clue is in the word, "Supporter". Call yourself a supporter? Well, do some supporting then!
  • 40+ years of supporting ---share holder-------- and had Valley Gld card in single figures.

im paying over £500 for people to eat and watch on Saturday sooooooo BOLXX to "your do some supporting" --------------i have and now i want to see 90+ mins of full effort , comitment and some FOOTBALL played by CAFC.
  • "40+ years of supporting" - very laudable, but irrelevant.
"share holder" - very laudable, but irrelevant.
"had Valley Gld card in single figures" - very laudable, but irrelevant.
"paying over £500 for people to eat and watch on Saturday" - very laudable and makes this argument all the more relevant:

How are you going to react to our manager and the team he picks on Saturday? Are you going to be a supporter and try and spur them on, or are you going to be passive and wait for them to turn on a show before you support them?
  • I'm with Stig on this one

    GH

you know and i know you aint going to be changing the habit of those 40 years and do something detromental to the cause.

No one is saying that people cant do what ever they feel is required but deep down we all know the only thing to do from here on is have our own views and opinions but to all those outside of our club we are 100% commited to trying to do our bit to help turn it around.

You know also that when the time is right people like you and others will show their disgust at the right time

That is why you have shelled out some much dosh to get people down there because it is your club and you will do the right thing

GH, but you're more likely to get that effort, commitment and football if the team have got loud passionate support behind them from the off. We all have a part to play in that.
  • agree uncle and ledge

Pig sick of hearing the fans slagged off .

What about Barnsley and the effort people on this board made to get the fans behind the team ? 20 mins later 3 nil down.

3 years of total shit --------------------they are lucky to get 20,000 paying customers.

No need to worry about booing etc Saturday is there ? crowd will be 9,000 of which 3,000 will be Norwich.
  • couldnt agree more GH

the thing is we are now at the end of the road with these no good beeps we really are i just think it is about time the outside worlkd knows we dont give a poop anymore about what can go wrong from here we are going to stick together and do what we need to as Fans to show whoever does come in at the end of this either on the board or Mgmt that if they get it right our love is worth more than the contempt they have shown us in the last 24 months
