New Players in January

Lunacy to start the season with only two central defenders. I'd go for James Wilson of Bristol City - only 19 so might go cheap. Quality displays for Brentford. Any others?

  • it'll be Darrren Ward from Coventry.
  • Surely the last thing we need is more promising young players that might be good. IMO we need more consistent and reliable players that are strong mentally, they can handle the pressure and won't lose confidence soon as they make a few mistakes or the crowd get frustrated.
  • ''we need more consistent and reliable players that are strong mentally... can handle the pressure and won't lose confidence...''

Agreed. As long as they're not called Gillespie or Burton, both of whom have been outshone by the young and promising McEverley, the only one of Parky's three signings who isn't actually worse than what we've already got...
  • Parky's words on the OS

"The bigger issue is that when that January transfer window opens, we need to get some stronger mentalities and characters in that starting XI.

"We've showed we can play and we can compete, but we've struggled when you need to roll your sleeves up and be resilient for the whole game, which we didn't do against Sheffield United.

"We've mapped out how we want the squad to look. Steve Waggott, Richard Murray and the board are all working together and we're talking to players.

"Ideally, if we are going to bring players in, then we want to bring them in straight away. We have a squad written down with new additions of how we'd like it to look in an ideal world, and we're speaking to players' agents and other managers all the time, although there is no guarantee that any of those players will come.

"We need to bring some players in to give everyone a lift; the supporters and the current group of players. Nothing lifts a team more than one, two or even three or four new bodies walking into the building. It lifts the training ground and certainly lifts the dressing room."

Caretaker boss Parkinson also expects several members of the current Addicks squad to move on to pastures new, but remains unsure whether China international Zheng Zhi will be one of them.

Zheng has been sidelined with a metatarsal injury since October and is expecting to return to training in January, but, when asked about the midfielder's potential departure, Parkinson said: "ZiZi is an asset for the club and I don't know whether he is going to move.

"He's been injured for a long time so no one has been able to watch him play, but if he does [go], it will generate money, which hopefully we could use in other areas.

"As much as we target people coming in, we have two or three players for each position we are looking at relative to what kind of money is available. ZiZi's situation will play a part in that."
  • This "squad" they have mapped out, does it have a managers name on it ?????

by guess it says Phil Parkinson at the top.

ye gods........have they not learnt anything !
  • Lets be honest we have got a team capable to stay in this league, showings at Reading earlier this season and Ipswich, Palace and Coventry last season proved this, we need a whole new management team to give our players a good kicking and inject some passion, this is when Ince comes into the equasion, will accept a pay cut, has alot of passion into our game and in my opinion is the most realist opportunity we have, if we try and create a new squad in January in the situation we r in now we will be Withdean bound next season!!!
  • Think Parky may go for Derby's Centre Back - Darren Powell, he looked unique when he played against us and would probably be available now Jewell has gone.
  • If Parky's helping to pick the new players, it sounds like the board have decided he's staying. Hopefully that was before yesterdays game. I really hope i'm wrong. :(
  • If Curbs was in charge he'd go for these types of players IMHO:

    Tony Warner
    David Martin

    Chris Baird
    Wayne Brown

    Karl Duguid
    Keith Andrews
    Michael Tonge
    Richard Hughes

    Jamie Cureton
    Freddie Sears
    Leroy Lita
    a.n other youngster from Arsenal

Think we need a keeper, a right back, another centre half, a solid and a creative midfielder and some pace up front to stretch defences, which we have lacked all season.

I would like us to buy Lita as I think there is a load of talent there if he was given a full time contract, dont think going on loan does his confidence any favours.
  • Andrew Crofts, Welsh International, 24 ish combative midfielder who can defend and score goals (unlike Bailey who gives away too many free kicks in dangerous positions) Has Championship experience with Charlton (local to Gillingham so he won't have to uproot from another part of the county) is currently on loan at Peterborough and is available (if Dickson is going prehaps we can do a part exchange to save finances as well? as Gillingham are one of the clubs who have enquired about him)

  • Also Bradley Orr from BristolCity who also available and can play right back or centre back and has plenty of Championship experience and why not raid Leeds for their keeper Casper Ankergren- another scandinavian goalkeeper who's a solid performer
  • [cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]it'll be Darrren Ward from Coventry.

    don 't you mean elliott
  • Ankergren has been Leeds keeper for the last couple of seasons but has been out injured at the start of this term and hasn't been able to win hisa place back- I saw him play for Leeds against Gillingham last season and he looked pretty decent- Why is it that Scandinavian 'keepers always seem to be consistant performers? And what about Bodo Balde from Celtic- another strong central defender
  • What about Hibs new signing ...... ?

Established international, Prem and SPL experience, good first touch and technique, goalscorer and creator.
    Just what we're looking for.

Come home JJ ...... you know you want to.

    ;o)
  • bump for mr lung
  • I am expecting some more players in there 30's, Primus will probably come back, Can't see us forking out money for a real quality player not that we could attract them anyway.
  • What about that bloke who played for Gillingham last year, top goalscorer i think and didn't play that many games. I wonder who he's banging them in for now.

i'd snap him up straight away if he expressed an interest!

I really should scroll down the page before starting a thread !!!
AFKA - Feel free to sink my thread.
  • I think we need a new keeper as well. Lee Camp has gone back to QPR and is apparently available on the cheap - could do a lot worse.

I agree with the Lita business, just don't think we would have enough money for the whole package with him. We do need to do something upfront though. Mcleod has been pretty much awful everytime I have seen him, might be worth cutting our loses and looking for someone else with a bit of pace. Who? Gawd knows.

  • Lita and Camp would be excellent - cheap and available (Lita is only £300k I believe) and both English I believe

Jamie McCombe at Bristol City (they aren't exactly flying this year) always looks solid against us (not hard I know)

Davenport on loan from West Ham would be good too - I reallly like him and Wet Sham don't seem too fussed

Keith Andrews from Blackburn (especially if Ince comes!)

Notice all those players play down the middle.....perhaps that indicates the spine is not strong enough!!
  • what about Roy Carroll from Derby now that he has fallen out with his team-mates
  • [cite]Posted By: stubs1310[/cite]what about Roy Carroll from Derby now that he has fallen out with his team-mates

Personally would rather have Weaver but Paddy Kenny is available. I'm sure we could afford him!

We might pick up one or more of these on loan

1905 took this photo of him in one of the 'special' clubs he frequent's........ ;-)
  • I thought Saddam was dead!
  • According to one of the ADU guys who is in the know....Ince hasnt applied or been approached, so we can discount that one.....we all know whats going to happen dont we...even though it doesnt make any sense whatsoever to the fans.

    Please, no more loanees!
  • It'll be interesting to see who we are bringing in. I think Parky should Certainly have a re think about Dickson. He's proved himself in the league we are likely to be playing in next season :(
  • I agree re. Dickson, and never understood why we didn't chase Lita on a transfer. I am sure that there is more to the story from last year, but seeing his name here at a reasonable sum reminded me...
