We need a talisman !

Over the years Charlton teams have always managed to find a certain player or two that the fans just seem to love and can identify with. When the chips are down they can galvanise the team and supporters and somehow act as a focal point for the team. Players in more recent seasons such as Chris Powell, Mark Kinsella, Clive Mendonca, Steve Brown, John Robinson. Does anyone feel the same about any of the current Charlton team or even squad ? I certainly don`t. Some managers seek out that "type" of player because they know its value to a football club. Where is our next talisman coming from I wonder ? Too early perhaps and if relegation does happen then maybe never but the only player I can think of who might come through is Jonjo.

  • Nicky Bailey if he gains more confidence perhaps.

Hard for a keeper but Deano managed it to some extent and Rob Eliott seems to be trying to engage with the fans.

But yes we are struggling for a talisman I agree.
  • I started this exact conversation at the begining of the 2007/2008 season with my talismen being in the shape of Holland, Reid or Todorov. For this season i think Elliott has that determined look about him, he's been champing at the bit for first team football and nows his chance (lets hope he succeeds). Theres also Lloyd Sam who i think was magnificant against Derby and QPR in both matches setting up goals and taking chances but i dont think he has the personality to be a talisman. Bailey has that pugish character but i just dont think he's technically good or skillful, however if he can gain confidence certainly from his two goals against QPR, he can boost the players around him and save us from relegation.

Lets hope they all find that killer instinct which has lacked in Charlton for almost four years...
