Waghorn looks a bit out of his depth Deon looked good when he came on. Since he is signing for us perm in Jan he must start in my humble opinion. Get him ready for championship or 1st div with Gray for next season.
I thought Waghorn played really well today, bar a couple of heavy touches. He looks really hungrry to impress, and I don't care whether it's to push to get into the Sunderland team when he goes back or not (just want someone who wants to do their best). In contrast, I don't think Burton looked like he was up for it at all.
Anyone else notice that Burton got more congratulations after the second goal, than Bailey?. The eagle eyed among you may, as I did have noticed his very crafty shove on I think Fitz Hall, just before Bailey headed home.
Agree Waghorn looked like a lost little boy today.
Thought Gray was harshly treated today. Was fouled everytime he went for a header, got nothing from the ref.
I'll have an aye for Burton to start, but a nay for it being with Gray. We need someone with a bit of pace to play off of either of them. We've got no one up up front to worry defenders.
It just seems incredible really, such high hopes of this forward line at the start of the season packed with pardews potential scorers, and its all come down to Dion Burton.

Waghorn didn't seem to see much of the ball. Can't remember him being involved at all. In contrast, I thought Burton looked like he was really up for it. Surprisingly quick for an oldie, too. And not afraid to throw his weight about. Made a big difference when he came on.
Todorov may be a permanent crock, given the number of knee injuries that he has suffered. Too bad, as he was (still is?) a quality footballer. Burton may or may not be the answer, but he will need to be at least in the here and now, or until someone else comes on.
Waghorn is going to be a very good player, but he obviously lacks experience even with raw talent.
Comes to something when we are pinning all our hopes on a journeyman coming to the end of his career....nay from me and I thought we had the option to sign....if so, Id send him back to be honest.
[cite]Posted By: HandG[/cite]Aye from me, althoough Gray gets poor service, I do wish he'd jump once in a while.
Not sure who I want up front. None of them stand out as obvious choices. Not sure why Gray never jumps, is frustrating, fair enough at times he shouldn't or doesn't need to, but there's plenty of times when he should be jumping.
Don't like Gray and Burton (or Todorov) together, need some pace up there or someone a bit different (like Waghorn is).
I think Parkinson must be looking for a striker, he doesn't seem to rate McLeod or Dickson, Todorov is never going to be fit enough to play regularly.
So we're then left with Gray, who scores with good service, can hold up the ball, but can't create chances for himself. Burton who's a similar type of player but not a goalscorer, and might or might not sign for free, and Waghorn, who has another month here to impress or he could be replaced with a new striker and sent back to Sunderland.

This thing he does of not jumping when he doesn't think he can win the ball just makes him look like he can't be bothered to a lot of people. It's not going to make him popular.
As for Todorov, even if his legs have gone from the injuries it's not like he's all about pace. He's still going to be able to open up a defence by spotting a pass and having the skill to put the ball through. We really miss someone with creativity who can do that. It's unbelievable he never gets a game when fit.
Thats the thing, I don't think AG is a target man (not in terms of flick ons anyway).
Surely the players see that he can't win the headers when he has a defender on his back all game? However, if the ball is played into chest height or at feet we have nobody better in the team to hold the ball up and bring other into the game.
Alternatively, get the bvall out wide and cross it in allowing him to run and attack the ball (a la Reading) and we will see the best of him).
He is getting the same criticisms as Big Chris did last year and it was exactly the same problems.

And he is our top scorer.
4 goals from open play this season. Not counting pens (and in the land of the blind) Bailey is King with 5.
Anyway, we didn't get where we are today by playing forwards who give the ball but score goals you know. That reminds me I must bump that Dickson thread.
[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]I forgot penalties arent goals - silly me
I was trying to make it a level playing field. On the basis of your argument, had Bailey taken (and scored) those 3 pens, he would now have twice as many goals as our top scoring forward. That rather says it all so far as the goalscoring exploits of those that have started up front for us this season.
I'd send Burton back. We don't play to Gray's strengths and Waghorn tries but looks out of his depth. I'd try Dickson and Izzy. pace aplenty and may at least win a few pens.

Give him some service and he'll score.

A disgruntled aye.

I looked at his OPTA stats this morning and during his career at Charlton he has had 17809 aerial challenges and has won 3, fact :)
Its just the fact that he never ever ever ever ever ever jumps and constantly fouls the defender that really winds me up.
Is Burton the answer, is Todorov the answer, is Dickson the answer, am I the answer.
Unless we sign a striker in January we can get the routeplannner out for Huddersfield in March by my reckoning.
