McEverley to return ? Fair on Basey ?

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
I don't think it would be. Grant has been pretty solid and doesn't deserve to be dropped. Go on Phil kick one of our own in the nuts why don't you. Have you learned nothing from Pards disasterous reign. BTW, Gillespie, fecking inspired signing that was - not !!

  • I think move Base man to midfield and send Bouazzzzzza back.
  • Basey is solid - like a rock. However, like a rock he can't move and is not good enough to play at this level....

Agreed neither are a lot of our current squad, but from what I've seen - McEvely in everytime over Basey
  • we're building a team for relegation keep basey in
  • the team built for relegation is already sorted mate! ;-)
  • Jesus he is 19 give him time Thatcher was slow and didn't get complaints powell was slow and no complaints
  • Dazzler - Basey is no Thatcher, let alone Powell!

Thatcher was 30+ and Powell was 33+ when they got slow

Still, as it's Christmas I'll let you off a post saying old men are slow ........ :-)

Agree with supaclive. He may be 19 but he's not exactly 'promising'. No ability whatsoever on the ball. Rather see one of our own at left-back just like anyone else but he's not really good enough.

very very harsh, he's got a cracking left foot
  • come on guys he can be good really he just needs to go out on loan for a while to scunthorpe where pards said:

"maybe their training methods are better"
  • If we were playing American Football we could bring him on to take the extra points and fieldgoals - but we're not, so therefore, he shouldn't play

but what do I know .... Oh, well both Pardew and Parky prefer other players in his position - Youga, Crainie, McEveley

Same comments lined at Dixon - we don't train with the guy on a daily basis and the "experts" are paid to choose the team and show us their coaching and management "knowledge" ...

It's a fair point - homegrown over loanees any day, but for me, Grant is just not good enough .... yet .... whether he makes it or not, I think is up for discussion

Did Pards actually say that?! Sheesh ..... it's worse than I ever thought it could be if he did!
  • i'll accept that

To be honest between now and the end of the season is not about being fair to people, the current or future maangement have to be hard and ruthless and sod being fair
  • I 'd move Basey into midfield, his corners / free kicks have some pace and edge to them.

yep around the time youga came back last year!
  • Welll after Derby saying they don't want him cup tied I wouldn't bother playing him at all. I was under the impression we had him and Gillespie on loan with a view to a permenant deal, what exactly is the point in getting these players in just to get them fit for other clubs especially other CCC clubs!
  • This constant obsession that loan players are the problem is a load of old horse shit.

McEverley is the better player, end of, so pick the better player.

    Merry Christmas!
  • Yes it is unfair on Basey, but I hope that he understands his time will come, but right now, for the sake of the club, McEveley has to play.
  • Point proved by Jay today
  • Totally agree......

The comments about Basey moving slower than Bella Emberg are still raising a grin.

He learned that you play the best player available in that position, and that is McEverley, also he's a player who gives a shit as well, and I'll 11 with McEverley's attitude
  • Also he's no midfielder-as much as Bouazza has come in for stick, he beat the full back all ends up three or four times in that second half and, although his end product wasn't always the greatest, I'd still rather have him there that Basey.

IMO it was a ridiculous substitution by Parkinson to change them over when he did today.
  • Grant is a carthorse, might have a decent left foot, but he's one paced, and that's slow too.

I know people want to get behind a player who's come through, but come on, know the players limitations.
  • what rothko said.... the blinkered attitude to some of the mediocre players that come thru our ranks baffles me
  • Been told by a friend of jay that he wants a move to charlton...
  • [cite]Posted By: SE10Addick[/cite]Been told by a friend of jay that he wants a move to charlton...

we should expect him to fail the medical due to insanity then
  • McEveley did his own job and most of Bouazza's today, display full of heart and effort and a few decent crosses too, what more can you ask...?
  • To be fair to Basey, he is still only 18(?) and will improve.

Based on his performances to this point, if McEveley wants to sign and we can afford him, get it done.
  • This is nothing short of daft, Grant Basey will get a game at every other side in this division and pace is an issue yes? Stuart Pearce was the paciest left back yes? Basey should be in the side on the strength of his left foot alone and he gives a shit chaps
  • I thought Mceverley was shocking in the first half. Couldn't pass, couldn't tackle, track back and no awareness what-so-ever. However, he was a different player in the second half. While he still left a massive hole everytime he went forward, I thought Basey should have come on earlier for Bouazza who had a bad game.
