Former Addicks sports scientist Nick Davies has returned to the club in a new role, Charlton announced on Monday.
Charlton's new head of sports science joined the first-team squad for Saturday's match against Norwich City following the departure of performance manager Niall Clark.
Caretaker manager Phil Parkinson said: "Niall has gone on to pastures new and we wish him all the best.
"We are delighted to welcome Nick, who is in my eyes one of the best sports scientists around. It's a great appointment for the club as we move forward.”

Nice work by the thread starter!
f****** sports scientist - we'd need einstein at the moment
parkinson ?
waggott ?
chappell / murray / whitehand ?
What exactly will a 'head of sports science' do on a full time basis ?
I can imagine measure fitness levels, body fat, advise on supplements etc, maybe design individual diet sheets, but surely there must be more to it for what is quite a weighty title.
Anybody able to add more ?
Potentially they could be involved in sports psychology as they may have an interest in that side of things.
they may be able to advise on developments in clothing/boot technology etc and how they may assist with getting an extra percentage point or two of performance out of the team.
The amount of work involved in drawing up, implementing and evaluating a plan for professional footballers would be massive in my view.
A sports scientist may perform the following tasks:
devise treatment and exercise programs that support athletes' preparation and recovery and assist sportspeople to return to training or competition
conduct experiments, make observations and interpret data in relation to sporting performances, and communicate findings to officials, athletes, coaches and other support staff
design or assist in designing training programs for sportspeople to improve sporting performance without causing injury or to strengthen particular areas of the body
refer clients to medical and paramedical specialists such as orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists and physiotherapists
assist with psychological issues of motivation and stress.
erm Eat big old pies on piers?
That extra percentage point or two should make all the difference!!!!
