Hindsight....

....is a wonderful thing.
A lot of the latest comments blame the board for not acting quickly enough or making bad decisions. How many of us were happy with the boards decisions at the time.

1. Moving Curbs out the front door... most say it was 1 or 2 seasons too late.
2. Dowie as manager...most said they were happy with the appointment, (he talked a good game of football)
3. Les Reed as manager.... most I feel were again happy with the appointment.
4. Pardew (the Christmas Saviour)...now we all wanted him as manager!!!
5. At the beginning of the season the majority thought that we had a strong enough squad to get us to the PL.

The board have made decisions that they think are best for the club, when we criticise them we have the benefit of hindsight, all the above boardroom decisions seemed good to me and I agreed with them at the time.

So Parkinson... has an Ok managerial record...do we keep him or do we let him go, remember Curbs was close to being asked to leave in the 90's (alledgedly). Alec Ferguson was 1 or 2 games away form the sack in 1986.

I am as fed up as everyone else about our current situation, however I believe that Minty and Co will do whats best for CAFC, also I started supporting us when we were in the old Div 3 so I can live with the fact that we might go down another step, but we will come up again....its the ups and downs of supporting our club! Someone should write a book about it!!!!

Maybe Oldham, Swindon, Bradford and Oxford fans said that as well
  • The only one i thought was the right decision was Pardew.
I didnt agree with any of the other points you made.

what about the point that they have learnt nothing since the departure of Curbishley and taht this dilliy dallying approach to getting points on the board will result in the same as the last time except with huger financial implications.

i think a lot of people were happy with the board due to the efforts put in by all that were there at the time at getting us back home and building solidly for seasons consecutivly.

I think most of us had blind faith in the board as they could do no wrong in our eyes.

    How wrong we were

Not a Bad post apart from the Bit about Dowie he wasn't even most people four or fifth choice for Manager at the time sorry.
  • Ketman, I think I saw a poll somewhere and most people said they were happy with Dowie, that did not make him first choice but they were happy.
Oh and thanks for marking my post 'not bad'. I feel kind of special now ;o)

Actually it's an excellent post, Dowie bit is laughable though :-)

I half agree with Bibble. Certainly many of us (yes I was one) thought Pardew was a good choice and there was a good theoretical logic in appointing a highly respected coach (Les Reed) as caretaker after Dowie went until Pardew became available.

Where I disagree or differ is the handling of the departure of Curbs. Firstly I certainly didn't want him to leave. The team had established itself as a solid midtable Premiership team which was the limit of or even, as subsequent events have confirmed, beyond realistic expectations. I think (and said at the time so no hindsight from me) that we should have done one of the following: a) Accepted Curbs' offer to see out the last year of his contract b) Offered Curbs the £12 million warchest Dowie had which may have been an incentive to sign the extension Minty wanted him to sign c) Appointed a caretaker such as Peacock or Day, both of whom were under contract, until such time as we attracted the right man which wasn't Dowie.
