What do we actually need to stay up?

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
Not really looked at it or past seasons what teams need. After emailing my brother today and getting the reply "we need to win most of the remaining games to stay up" I feel well worried.

Why oh why has this happened! It just means that the start of next year will be drawn out and stressfull like two years ago.

Come on you red.....rise from the ashes!

  • Need to beat Doncaster/Forest and Southamptons points score by 4 or more points.
  • A decent manager, some decent players, £15 Million would be a start

  • We need to finish higher up than three other teams, doesn't sound too difficult apart from the fact at the moment there is not a single one worse than us. All talk of ten wins or 50 points or whatever is only a rough guide you just have to finish 4th bottom possibly with a record high or record low number of points.
  • A new manager and some players willing to fight for the cause (ie. not too many loan players who don't give a sh*t).
  • a miracle
  • a miracle
  • Only a couple of things to be honest.

A bit of luck, Racon to come back fit and in form, and more important of the lot, a goalscorer. We've brought in 2 strikers on loan, yet neither of them are goalscorer (as much as i think Waghorn is a decent footballer, and Burton is better than some make out).

You have to score goals to win matches, and we need to win matches. Goals also breed confidence throughout the rest of a side. Any ZZ money needs to be used very wisely.

  • someone to create chances
    someone to score them
a huge steaming pile of self-belief
A litre or two of luck
and a bloody big spoon to mix them all together to make a nice tasty concoction I like to call the Ten wins Pie

This and a bit of luck..... oh and ZZ and Racon in the middle.
  • For me it's always been a Creative midfielder we are lacking ala Jensen, would solve a lot of problems thing is I cannot think of a single one at this level which is really scary !
  • or Murphy
  • I'd like to see this supposed bunch of men that wear the Charlton badge on their shirt stop feeling sorry for themselves, forget about how good we could/should have been and start scrapping for every single piece of a football game that comes their way, both collectively and individually. It is a game of football ffs and after 10 to 20 years in the game you haven't forgotten the skills involved just the attitude with which you need to play it. Every season some non-league side knocks out a league team in the FA Cup so if you think ability level is the be all and end all of football then you need to think again. F*ck QPR on boxing day - they may have oodles of cash but it's still 11 men V 11 men and man for man you should be looking at wanting it much more on your turf - The Valley.

You want to stay in this division? Fight for it - that means wanting the ball both in attack and defensive situations.

    Up the addicks.

    Up the addicks.

Sco for manager! Head. Nail. Hit.
  • we all talk the talk oggs even pardew at times and now parky but there is no final pass and goal on the end of it mate
  • I know mate. That's how it is at the moment.

But I feel there's major change about to happen very shortly.
It's all too un-naturally quiet and accepting at the club, so something's afoot behind the scenes.

And Parky knows that he'll be 'leaving with his head held high'.
He's already told us in as many words in his interviews.
  • I am sick of it Oggy i never thought i would feel this way about them. I remember in about 85/86 i didnt give a shit about anything i was a 10 year old boy who loved watching them every so often with his Dad and Brother my love for them was strong they were my heros. as you get older you take more notice of what is happening around you and what things actually mean, My love hadnt died it grew stronger and stronger culminating in me being a blubbering wreck at the play off final.

Now i hate the players that dont give a shit anyone who think they do are wrong there may be one or 2 basey, forts, elliot all charlton boys taht do but the rest dont.

I hate Parky (even though i dont want too) i hate him for not being able to turn it round

I hate the board because their lack of speed and abilty to stop this rot is consuming my mind.

I hate my self for feeling this way about it

I hate the way i saw it coming when Curbs left i hate the way i was right
  • I hate Pardew, he should have guided us to at least a playoff place last year and at least mid-table mediocrity this year based on his huge salary....tosser.
  • What makes it more galling is that the spine of the team should be capable of at least surviving comfortably at this level.

    Weaver - Premiership keeper

Fortune/Hudson - both capable at this level and higher in the case of Fortune

Semedo /Racon/Bailey/Holland - any two of those four should be able to do it at this level

Gray - lack of movement frustrating for sure but a proven scorer at this level

So wherehas it gone so badly wrong??

And be able to anticipate where the ball will go and not be routed to the sport
  • Just looked at last seasons final table and Leicester went down with 52 points. To get that we need to win 11 and draw 1 of our remaining 22 games. Can't see it happening somehow.
Although to be fair i don't think we'd need anywhere near 52 points to stay up this year.

Not had problems before at this level, on that basis I'd say it was a service problem.
