McEverly

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
mentioned it on the Narwich match thread but in the Metro he said he expects to fit for the game tomorrow. Would you replace Basey with him? It's probably a bit unfair but we need results so I would. From what we have seen so far he can defend and also get forward and we need drive. Grant did okay last week and has a sweet left foot but maybe is too one paced (slow).

  • did you not post that in the match thread? ;-)
  • Basey did alright on Monday, even if he didn't clear his lines properly for that last gasp Derby equaliser.

But McCleverly seems to have a bit more physical presence about him, a bit more drive and maybe we have to ask ourselves, would Derby have equalised that second time if he'd been playing?

Defenders first of all need to defend.

I find this a bit tough. McEverley has been very good and his experience has showed which gives him the edge over the young Basey. I really don't want Basey to feel kicked in the teeth as he's done well and worked hard. But, as you say, we need results and purely on that basis would prefer McEverley.
  • I would play McEverley at left back and Grant Basey at Left Midfield. Bouazza doesn't do enough for me.

And then maybe we could play a tortoise and a sloth up front!

We need some pace from somewhere!

Can you honestly see Basey getting into the scoring positions that Bouazza did against Derby?

McEverly has more to his game than Basey and should start ahead of him if he's fully fit.

I did start by saying that !! (thought it deserved it's own thread though)
  • It is unfair to blame Basey for the Derby equaliser, OK he did head the ball onwards but where were our central defendrs when the ball came to Ellington - no where near the guy they should have been marking, so give Basey a break. However I would play McEverley on Saturday as he is a better defender and replace Bouaza with Basey in midfield.

Sorry, but I just don't rate Bouazza. How many times has he got himself into a good position and he just takes a wild swing at it when a pass or cross would have been a better option. As I suggested in a previous threat, you should change your username to 'Barn Door Bouazza'
  • McEveley might come back in, but I wouldn't replace him for Waghorn.

Would mean either Gillespie or Burton would have to be dropped.

Either way I would keep Basey in the team. Basey at LM and McEveley in at LB would be a good move. Bouazza just isn't doing it at the moment

  • 'Bouazza gets himself into scoring positions.' I reckon that helps!

"A previous threat"!!! No need to take it that seriously mate. If he has another shocker I'll change it, promise! :o)

Seriously, I take you point about Bouazza but in that position he is going to cause far more problems than Basey could. Ok he didn't take his chances against Derby but that doesn't mean that he won't against Norwich.
  • First of all we need to keep Waghorn in the team, otherwise we don't get the best out of Andy Gray's work - and there's no one to drop off to link with midfield.

That's 4 other loanees left to play. Bouazza's the wild card out there, the unpredictable element that defences don't know what he'll do next. Granted, sometimes he plays as if he doesn't know either, but he has trickery, pace, decent long range shooting technique and he draws defenders to him creating space for others, if they're awake.

Crainie's been settled at rightback for the last few games, improving with each game, so if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I like Basey, he's a local lad learning the game with good technique, but he's a bit slow and ponderous at leftback,
So if he's fit, play McEveley - quicker, stronger, more mobility and drive.

4 loanees in the team so far. So it's a toss up between Gillespie and Burton, they can't both play.
Parky's dilemma will be, if he needs to replace Gray because he'll need the ball to stick up front - Toddy can't do the physical, IzzyMac/Dicko play a different game, so I feel he'll pick Burton.

But, of course, you don't change a winning team - so Parky might just leave things as they are. ;o)
  • but we didnt win Oggy...
  • The one thing Bouzza doesn't have is "decent long range shooting technique"

He hits it as hard as possible and hopes! He'll score one wonder goal a season and miss at least 5 more goals through lack of composure

However, you cannot play Basey at left midfield - too slow, not good enough going forward and would completely nullify our requirement to stretch teams, especially away from home
  • I'd keep Basey in for his dead ball deliveries.

Great left foot from free-kicks and corners.

Play Shelvey. It would give us a bit of creativity in the middle and his dead ball delivery is just as good, if not better.
