Past players sold where, somehow, we made a profit..........

........... or got our money back (or even got a fee)!

Should be a relatively short thread, given that we hardly ever make a profit on sales! I'm talking about the ones we bought that we never believed we'd even get our money back, let alone a profit. Also includes anyone you think we would never have got any money for.

I shall start with the cult hero himself - carl leaburn

Leaburn was ours from day one. If we are talking youngsters subsequently sold for decent money then there are plenty. My namesake being just one of many.

I initially read it as players we acquired from elsewhere and then subsequently made a profit or broke even.

Yeah, I added the bit ' Also includes anyone you think we would never have got any money for' so that it could include the home grown players too.

Another example of the home grown 'unbelieveables', IMO is darren pitcher

    Shaun Newton.

I loved the bloke for his pace and directness, not forgetting the Ipswich play off goal and THAT penalyy, but he was a vampire, rather like our Lloydie these days.
  • mark kinsella
  • Scott Parker, Paul Konchesky, Darren Bent, Derek Hales, Mike Flanagan, Paul Elliott, Paul Walsh, Lee Bowyer, Robert Lee.

It's actually a pretty long list if you include home grown players.
  • I think you've missed the point Pete :)
  • Talking of Leburn I met him in the club shop on monday. He is a brick sh 1t house now. Very nice guy signed my little nephews football for Christmas. Would be good to have him up front for us today, he was a very underated player with a very good footballing brain.

He would not last 10 minutes with the current crowd giving him pelters for not scoring every other game

  • He is at most games - I followed him to the ground the other week after seeing him get out of his G reg Sierra (???)

Couldn't keep up with him walking though - his stride is like a yeti
  • John Humphrey - bought from Wolves for £60,000 sold to Palace for £400,000 then resigned a few years later along with Paul Mortimer in exchange for Darren Pitcher + cash. Might be wrong about the last bit. Memory not what it was.

Peter Shirtliff - bought from Sheffield Weds for £125,000 sold back to Sheffield Weds for £500,000

Colin Pates - bought from Chelsea for £400,000 sold to Arsenal for £500,000
  • Can't believe we got anything for Djimi Traore. Not a profit, but anything at all was good business!
  • paul williams
  • Darren Bent
  • I think people are missing the point here!
  • Danny Mills £250k from Norwich, £4m to Leeds... the money that helped us keep the core of the relegated squad together and develop the North stand
  • Mark McCammon - awful awful striker signed on a free from Cambridge made 1 appearence in 1999(?) sold for £135,000 to Millwalll (I think) ha ha ha

I think we got David Whyte as part of the Pitcher deal.
