Phil Parkinson last night

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
I don't want to get into that argument again of whether he's the right man or not!

But what I will say is this.

From the team he put out, to the tactics he used, to the subs he made, I think he got almost every decision right yesterday.

I think he saw a lot of the problems from the Cov game, and set about putting them right.

Against Cov there was no pressure anywhere on the pitch, especially in centre mid. So he brings back Semedo to partner Bailey and straight away theres more bite there. As much as I like and respect Holland, his legs just don't have it anymore.

Against Cov there was no defending from the front - so he brings in Waghorn to chase and hustle all game, alongside Gray who worked his socks off.

Those two's chasing last night against slooooooooooooooooow centre backs meant that we could play the ball into areas over the top down the channels when there was no other option on. We turned their back four towards their own goal and put pressure on them, and moved as a unit up the pitch, relieving the pressure and pushing Derby back - none of which happened against Cov when no pressure meant the ball just came straight back. More often than not when ended up gaining a throw in in an attacking area when this happened.

Weaver needed a break, so he brought Elliot in who did everything well and looked comfortable. The subs he brought on, particurlarly Gillespie came on to try and close the game out and very nearly did it. Did anyone else notice the absolute b*llocking that Gillespie gave Bailey when he gave the ball away?

And whatever he said, he seemed to get the players up for it.

But for a little bit of luck/loss of concentration Parkinson last night would have well and truly won the tactical battle and even though we didn't win, I did like his team selection for this game and tactics. I hope he and we can push on from here and do as well in the next game.

Well done Parky from me.

  • Parky did alright, shame we couldn't hold on. He looked shocked, speechless, gutted as the rest of us when they scored, just hope this morning he can pick the team up and get them to play with the same desire on Saturday.

I really hope last night we can put performances in like that week after week, and not turn up to Norwich, look totally clueless and lose 2 nil without a fight.

Derby were poor we were better than usual. Nothing that El Tel can sort out boys.
  • We aint having any luck only bad luck.

Lets not berrate Buzz for last nights result

He picked a well balanced team taht tried for him last night, i was well pissed off i couldnt get there i spent ages on the nth circ only to have to turn around as i had not got past Ilford by 1900, i went home expecting a gutless performance and Varney to ram my words down my gob.

what i saw was much the same as Southampton a real honest performance but with no end result.

We need that to cahnge i am not convinvced atht it can change BUT and it is a big BUT if we play like that in every game from now till the end of season we may have a chance.

For the 1st time in what must seem like ages we never looked beaten once they scored we just got on with it and went and scored again something i have not had any confidence in us doing.

I was not happy we signed Waghorn not due to his ability because i had seen 1st hand in the youth cup games what this kid potentially to offer but due to him being so young and lack of experience when we needed an experienced head.

I was mistaken i admit it please get the loan extended at least for the next couple of months or until the end of the season.

him and Gray finally looked like a partnership we havent had astrike partnership at the valley in years those 2 played like they had been together for years last night
  • I thought everything was right last night and with a bit more conviction that would be gained via confidence we would have won last night. Whether he is the right man for the job (I said no earlier and still think probably not) will be proved in the time allotted to him by the board. We played well against the Saints but not since, I wait to see how we go forward from this into the Naaarwigde game
