Ipswich boss waits on Ambrose swoop

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
Jim Magilton is undecided on a permanent deal for Darren Ambrose

“I don't know yet, we will see in January," he told the East Anglian Daily Times of the Charlton midfielder, currently back at Portman Road on loan.

"Ambrose is versatile and I brought him here to add competition.

“I want to see more from Ambrose and the more games he has, the better he will be.”

I know alot of people didn't like him, but I was disappointed we let him go. He's a creative player and can score goals.

Would be happy to see him back here.

  • I wouldn't - he did nothing for us for all of this season, and he's doing NOTHING at Portman Rd either currently
  • I'm gonna be on guard by the training ground just in case he comes back

I think you'll find your opinon isn't shared by many BRE...he and Thomas became huge millstones around our necks the minute we got relegated.
  • I am pro ambrose for a number of reasons.

But the major problem is, that when he doesnt play well, he is awful and fades in to the background of games. The last year he has done that more than played well.

It could all be down to money anyway, he is one of few players we have that we can make a substantial cash-in on in the new year.

Cant see him ever playing in a red shirt again.
  • Sounds as though Magilton is a bit underwhelmed as well.
  • Think Ambrose (and Thomas) are both "underachievers".
It'll be a shame, when they retire, they'll look back and realize this; that they could (still can ?) win matches on their own WHEN they can/could be bothered.
  • Ambrose pisses all over Thomas.
  • Magilton is not sure, is he - if he's saying: "I want to see more from Ambrose ..."

I'd prefer him over Lloyd Sam, but that's not saying much.

Don't agree he's creative though, more than Holland, Semedo etc, but he rarely plays a killer pass.

Being an attacking player and being involved in moves isn't the same as being creative. He's not an Andy Reid or Claus Jensen, he doesn't pick out good passes all game.
  • BRE i share that opinion, he did score some vital goals last season all three or four of em ;o)

  • 9 goals last season, Dazzler. NINE!

    ;o)
  • wow didn't check that out - pretty damn good for a waste of space midfielder! eh supaclive?
  • I said THIS season Dazzler ....

    Not LAST season .... ;-)
  • We'll miss players like Ambrose when we're in League One rotating Sam and Wagstaff.
  • He can't be bothered to assert himself, as far as i am concerned he can bugger off to ipswich - what a waste of talent
  • hmm bit unfair on this season as they've all played gash!
  • And he probably was pushed back into the team before he was ready after his surgery.
  • Think Magilton is starting to smell the coffee
  • Ambrose appears (18 games and no goals this season)to be suffering from Varney's syndrome i.e. I've so lost my confidence so I'd rather not try anything and let people think I'm not playing well rather than prove the fact.
  • hmm this may be it bring em both back!

  • I blame Dowie for what has happened to Ambrose- has hasn't been the same player since being sacrificed two weeks in a row when we were reduced to ten-men at the start of Dowie's reign. It was almost as though he though-'whats the point in trying if as soon as we get a player sent -off then I get taken off'!!! His confidence was shot to pieces and I don't think he has rediscovered it since.

I am an Ambrose fans, but if that were the reason why he has never reached the heights we believe he has potential to achieve then he is the whimp that others on here suggest he is.
  • Ambrose needs to be played just behind a striker not on the wing, unfortunately we never gave him that luxury but i do concede i found him a extremely frustrating player.
