Anyone think we're going to win on Monday?

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
I do.

I refuse to believe this club will be relegated and I reckon the comeback will start against The Rams.

Varney won't score. He's bloody dreadful.

2-0 Charlton.

It'll be a wounded animal-type response from the players, full of anger and passion!!

Up and at 'em with an early goal to settle the nerves.

COME ON YOU REDS!

  • I can't see Parky getting anymore out of the players if I'm honest.

Derby last won on in the league on 15ht November, so they'll be needing a win and we're a charity case at giving those out.
  • I really thought we'd win on Tuesday against a Coventry side who to be honest were awful. Yet we offered nothing. I can't see where the next win is coming from and in 22 years of watching Charlton i've never seen such a poor side as the current crop. There is absolutely nothing about our club at the moment that suggests we will beat Derby.
  • Derby manager says to his team, 'keep a clean sheet for the first half hour, wait for Charlton to drop their heads and then push forward.' If we could get an early first goal and stay focussed then I believe we could win, but in my heart I don't think we will. I am just dreading seeing Varney tuck one away.
  • Nope i can not see us winning this side of xmas
  • I do, and I hope as I'm walking out of the O2, I hear cheers rather then boos from the Valley
  • Can see where you're coming from Valley and wish I could be as positive as you but after Tuesday just can't see it happening. Pains me to say it but 5 points adrift,35/6 points wanted from 25 games not to mention finding 3 teams worse than us. Hell, it's depressing!
  • I dont but I will still be there hoping for a miracle
  • can you imagine the score if Coventry were any good

  • Anyway i think we can win every game and as soon as i seen 2 minutes of football i think here we go again

I remember going to Carlisle in 85, long coach journey on the unofficial hoolie bus, LOL, verge of promotion, cant remember if we needed a point or a win to secure it, but 2-0 down after about 15 minutes if my memory serves, we all looked at each other and said in unison "whose idea was this?"

We did win 3-2 in the end and the trip to Blackpool afterwards enroute home (Sunday morning about 9am we got back) is now legendary for some of us.
  • Chris Coleman's admitted strategy of keeping it tight until the crowd turned is something to take note of.

See either my Telegraph link from a day or two ago or american Addick's excellent, thought provoking post on another thread. post
  • Sadly not
  • Yes i saw that quote the other day len in the paper - that really stood out for me. They all know it now, we are impatient bell ends and start shouting within 15 minutes cos we're not winning.

Agreed, someone else said it earlier in the season.
  • I always think the darkest hour is just before the dawn, but I've felt we were there before the last 3 home games. Surely Tuesday was the lowest point ??!!!
  • I'll be there believing that we can win!
Let's hope that at least some of the players share that belief.

  • Yep. All bad runs have to come to an end sooner or later.

perhaps we shouldn't go to the valley on monday because according to that "london paper" the metro the game is away! absolute feckwitts. 3-1 Charlton, the revival starts here!! (sound of alarm clock going, getting up then crunching cornflakes...)
  • I always think we are going to win, but I am an eternal optimist who knows bugger all about football.
  • Sheff Weds, Bristol City, Burnley, Barnsley, Sheff Utd, Southampton, Coventry - from 7 home games against those footballing giants we've amassed an amazing 2 points and shipped 15 goals. There's nothing to suggest the run will end on Monday. I was confident we'd beat Coventry but that performance has drained any optimism from me.

I think the vital statistic is that fact the last time we scored the first goal in a game was the last time we won against Ipswich back on 4th October, since then the opposition have always scored first meaning we're always chasing the game. We did well coming back for a point against Burnley and Ipswich but other than that including throwing 2 points away against Plymouth we've lost. The exception to the rule being the goalless draw against Southampton only one of FOUR clean sheets this season. Surely these are damning statistics?

IF we can get an early goal maybe it'll give us the platform to go on and get that much needed win...
  • ignore the facts! sporny win? maybe not but who knows its gotta happen sometime.
  • It has to happen soon, just look at how much bad luck (Plymouth, Brum) we've had. I'm sure we score the first goal the psychology of the team changes. Instead of being behind and thinking "here we go again" they've got something to defend and get their teeth into. I'm sure the confidence would start to seep into the team. Just go at them from the off. As said before they haven't won in a month so not in the best of form.
  • On recent totally inept displays not a chance. However you just hope that a kick up the backside and a better attitude we might nick something against another side starting to show bad form again.
  • Not a chance.

If we couldn't even win the match closest to 5 Dec, then we are doomed. :-(
  • I think we will win every game
