Attention: Please take a moment to consider our terms and conditions before posting.

I worry about posting what I really think.

It's been 5 years of decline. Every week I wonder just how much worse we can get and Tuesday was the straw that broke the camels back. I can't be angry anymore.

I'll be Charlton till I die but I'm so pissed off. If I wrote exactly what I worry I would immediately regret it.

  • yep it all started in the curbishley era , i blame him for our current predicament
  • Go for it V_f_r - everyone elses posts whatever they like so why not you!
  • The current position of the club is a culmination of a number of factors, it began with the end of curbs but it has nothing to do with curbs.
  • I thought the idea of a forum like this was to give people the freedom to post what they like providing they don't slander, libel or abuse without foundation and show due courtesy and respect to those whom may hold a different opinion.

    Post away!
  • Tuesdays performance was so completely dreadful, abject, dreadful in almost every aspect of play. I hated watching us.
  • Perhaps because I've always regarded myself as a supporter, I hate the boo boys with a passion, I'll never boo our team but it's just too dreadful to watch at the moment. I just feel bad slagging them off so much.
  • When we were 2-1 down on Tuesday with about half an hour to go, I had absolutely no belief that we had the tiniest inkling of a chance of getting back into the game.

I think thats the first time I've ever felt that way about us.

But I'm generally one of the rose-tinted society, so I'll be there on Monday confident of a win!

there was debate amongst some of us on Tuesday as to if there was a worse performance in a charlton shirt.

not that the scoreline reflected it

it was the way there was no effort, no fight, no nothing it was like a training game from start to finish and it was horrendous to watch

I agree but the stands were just as devoid of atmosphere

i think we as fans started alrite but within moments of the start we saw what was unfolding and stood in disbelief
  • The MAIN problem with this club is our inability OR unwillingness to keep hold of our star player/players.
I have heard a thousand and one different reasons over the last 50+ years as to WHY we have let these key players go....but the bottom line is that the net result is the same (no matter what the circumstances of each individual case).........decline!
Until we become a club who spells out that we aren't going to be used to such an extent in this way by these emloyees then we will always be what we are.
Yes..... I'm not silly enough to think that this doesn't happen to other clubs....but for gods sake, we've got it down to a fine art.....I could make a list out as long as your arm and ALL with 'sound and compelling' reasons from various boards as to why they were sold!
As I type....two of the top goal scorers now in The Prem....are Bent and DeFoe.(Bent second...DeFoe sixth or seventh)
    Iwelmo in The Championship (second).
Ok, you could say Iwelmo wasn't exactly a star player with us...but you get my drift I think.
  • I 100% agree with the training match description. It was like watching a poor reserve game. I found myself looking around the ground away from the game and wanting it to end.

I am now back to the Charlton fan of the late 80's people taking the p1 ss non stop about my team, papers sla gging us off, not expecting anything and generally being a laughing stock.

I have got my little nephew his first Charlton kit for xmas he is two, I dont think I have the heart to give it to him!!!! Now thats bad

Everyone knows what great job curbishley did however the rot had set in before he left so I don't see how you can say that he wasn't one of the factors.

I agree that we had started on a downward trend under Curbs. He did a wonderful job for us, but in the last two or three seasons most of the football was turgid, and we were in solid relegation form for the last six months. With the benefit of hindsight, I would still be glad to see him move on when he did but obviously with a different replacement and without "ambitious" spending levels.

The nearest I can think of to Tuesday night was when we went down in 1980 with about 5 games to go. One of those was against Fulham (also already down) at The Valley. As you can imagine it was hardly a great spectacle. However, the other night, with half a season to go, and against a poor side, we just gave up. That just isn't acceptable. We had about five players who looked interested, the rest were passing the buck and hiding.

you saw 5 more than me bud i didnt see one player interested

I think Coventry were the worst team that I've seen beat us, and they did it was ease, so it probably was worse than Wycombe.

I keep thinking that things can't get any worse but they always seem to.

I was at that Fulham game. We lost 1-0 and were awful.

You got the sense that those lads gave a toss but simply were not good enough though. Think Churchouse,Wilson etc.

This time round the players are (should be) good enough but you sense too many don't give a toss so I completely agree with you.

I added them up using the same calculation as they do on the crowd figure :-)
