The make up of our squad at the start of the season

Just can't get my head round why we went into the season with just two centre backs? If we had any aspirations regarding promotion we had to have at least 4 recognised )and permanent) players in that position. This is not hindsight, it is basic management. To then be put in a position where we HAVE to sign an emergency centre back on loan (an unfit one to boot) only served to undermine the team.

Equally, it is clear that Pards didn't fancy Moutu or Semedo at right back hence the signing of another loan player to fill that position.

However, was this just plain bad mangement from Pards or was he told that there isn't a penny available to fill those positions?

Whatever his faults, I feel pretty sure that Pardew would have bought in another centre half (maybe two) had the funds been available.

The signing of Crainie I don't understand becasue he is no better than either Moot2 or Semedo imo.

Crainie would have made sense as cover following Fortune's injury but I agree not as first choice full back given that his best position is centre half.

LOL I think most people knew the horse was always going to bolt - apart from Pards and/or the Board that is. Or was the "we must go up this season" vibes just a smokescreen for "we're gonna be in one hell of a relegation dogfight this season"? Hence the Premier Season Ticket offer once again?
