Henry and AFKA are talking, tongue in cheek I think, about a ground share as a large ground like The Valley will be a huge fixed overhead now we have no more parachute money.
That set me thinking, in my present depressed state, as to whether there is a future for the Club in the event of what appears an inevitable relegation. We have allegedly "friendly" debt but how friendly will that debt remain if there is no likelihood of a return to the gold paved streets of the Premiership?
I seriously fear our beloved Charlton could go the way of the Charlton Greyhound track and be consigned to the history books. It so nearly happened back in 1984 and the financial world is more ruthless, hostile and callous than it was back then. The only thing that MIGHT save us is public investment because of our community activities if there is a perceived political advantage for the ruling junta in Greenwich or various local authorities fanning out into Kent.
I really think relegation will spell the death knell of the Club in the not too distant future.
Somebody PLEASE convince me I am wrong.

I also thought Pundits know feck all about anything, and that football is cyclical, all spending more money does is enlarge or shrink the cycle but the cycles always happens...
We can never let this happen AGAIN!!!!!!!
I really do think we are just lacking that goal and win that will give us some sort of mini revival.
then with a bit of luck some solid changes i think we will see a much happier Valley.
you have to try and stay positive in lifes ups and downs
What Tavern said.
We are in a relegation fight but we are not relegated by a long way yet.
AFKA may have been joking. Who can tell? : - )
Personally I think you and I Len, as slightly mature CL members, will both live to see the Valley at 40k rather than us leaving. Not this year or even this decade but sometime.
You are right of course.
Like many older fans on here I've seen worse than we are seeing at the moment down there. The two big differences though are that back then we didn't know any better and that despite often being useless the guys in the shirt genuinely gave their all. Les Berry probably epitomises what I mean the best.
I don't mean to rake up Curbs again but it is relevant in that he perceived the fans didn't want him because of his boring mid table Premiership football and walked. The consequence has been managerial turmoil which is a large factor in where we are now.
We were so close to becoming an established top level club at our own ground The Valley that to see it all unravelling is heartbreaking for someone like me who waited so long to see it happen and indeed wondered if he ever would.
You are down, and feeling morbid.
And in turn, you are talking twaddle.
Got home from holiday yesterday to read that my other club, Kent CCC, is about to report its worst ever financial year with the club in millions of pounds of debt and is going to have to cut its playing staff (and we only had 16 players appeared in the first team all last season as it is!)
You've now got me wondering which is going to go under first - my football club or my cricket club.
Someone say something to cheer me up else my post-holiday blues may turn suicidal !!!
hope that makes you feel better i will wait until tomorrow before i tell you the truth
PS Vote DiCanio
The possibility of history repeating itself does worry me, though.
i look to the more sensible folks like you two to keep it level headed ;-)
You are right that we have now tasted the champagne and so are less happy with the flat cider we are now getting but think of the kids who have only ever seen the prem.
And before even our time Len (yes, youngsters such a time does exist) there were people who saw Jimmy South Stand's team, the crowds of 70k, the cup win etc and who complained in the 60s and 70s about how the current lot weren't as good and didn't show the commitment of Jock Campbell and how Charlie Wright was a clown letting the ball go thru his legs, what would Sam have said, etc, etc.
Doesn't mean today's shite smells any sweeter but to everything there is a season and a purpose under heaven, a time to win and a time to lose. This is a time to lose, let's hope that there is another time to win soon.
well the turf looks nice ;o)
Honest player, big hearted and stuck his head in where angels fear to tread.
If only we still could sign players of that character.
Limited, maybe, and probably scored more goals at The Valley playing for opponents than he ever did for us - but well worth a fiver of my own money, lol
Big like the centre forward who was slated on here and elsewhere for being a big talentless lump that we sold to Wolves last summer then. : - 0
Is he not still manager of Tranmere Rovers?
Tranmere Manager - again!!!
its tough at the moment....
a nutcase like paulo might work...
