Who Was Fit To Wear The Shirt?

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
Mcevely (before his injury impressed that he tried to continue)

Fortune (his style is naturally languid but towards the end he was one of the few who looked relatively animated which says a lot!)

Holland Way past it unfortunately but you cannot fault his effort and desire

Bailey Awful performance but kept trying and didn't hide

Hudson Had the balls to acknowledge the fans

Any more?

  • Toddy was ok when he came on, but was to late to make an impact
  • Len: Think that about covers it.
  • To be honest I just dont recognise any of the feckers anymore - and cant really be bothered to do so. The team changes so often and with all the new loans, to me, most of the time, they are just a bunch of red shirts tripping over and looking bad.
  • we were rubbish but we did have some good moments, Izale is a joke how many pens has we won now?? some good play with bouazza and gilispie but no one in the box to attack the ball. Bailey is trying to hard. holland steady but past it. where we were we all thought burton had missed the pen. gray and toddy should have come on earlier. The worst person the pitch by a mile was the REF no one on here has said owt about just how ffing rubbish he was.
  • I agree that the ref was very, very poor but he wasn't the one that was giving the ball away every 5 seconds.

about right, Bailey - I like but he's not good enough to wear the shirt, but atleast he trys hard and throws himself about abit, Holland the same except the thowin himself about, other than 1 challenge that I remeber
  • If we are going to go down, I would much rather see youngsters (Shelvey, Wright, Basey) out there fighting to the last than most of the loanees who, understandably but unforgivably, don't show any sort of passion for the club.
  • my son and any other poor misfortunate child introduced to those lazy no good bstds by an adult
  • The ref was bad. Coventry had a clear cut penalty in the second half and he didn't give it!
  • That seems so much of the problem too few seem really bothered

  • Gillespie always has a good first half but seems to tire in the second, prehaps we should keep him on the bench and unleash him for the last third of the game when the opposition should be tiring. I actually saw Hudosn trying to gee someone up last night- first signs of leadership I've seen from him all season- we don't we make Fortune the captain and see if it raises his game- at least he is Cafc produced.
  • Bailey made a lot of mistakes and gave the ball away but that was because he at least tried to get things going in midfield and had the balls to put his hands up and try and put his foot on the ball and make something happen.
Holland, I'm afraid did nothing but run around chasing shadows all 90 mins.

For me the biggest mystery out there is why Crainie is continually picked at right-back, especially at home.
He never gets past the halfway line or tries to overlap his right winger.

Moo2 may look slightly less sound defensively but at least he gets forward.
I just don't understand why he isn't given the chance.
  • The sad thing is that if we'd put in even a half decent performance we'd have won comfortably. We defended quite well apart from the first goal, with weaver having little to do apart from keep out a 35 yard freekick, doh. I'm not one for chopping and changing, but I'd like to see elliot given a chance.

Centre midfield is where the biggest problem is, and if we could just solve that then the forwards would have much more chance. We mcleod who likes to get on a defender's shoulder and the we hoof the ball up to him all game. The one ball played on the deck behind a defender he won a penalty from.

If everybody was fit then I'd play Racon and ZZ in the middle, would be prem quality pairing I feel. But both are injured so it becomes who do you play out of the rest. Well you need a holding player I think, so semedo or basey for me. Then you need someone next to them, Josh Wright did nothing wrong when he played, Shelvey is an obvious option and Arter is getting back to fitness.

So my choice for Monday would be Basey and Wright. They're both young players who deserve a chance. I've picked Basey ahead of Semedo as he's less prone to make a rash challenge, plus has a good pass and set piece delivery. However, Mceverly has a suspected dislocated shoulder apparently, so may need basey at left back, meaning semedo in the middle with Wright.

As for wingers, we probably have to stick with gillespie and hamar, can't see anything better in the club at the moment, but have to be mindful that gillespie can't do much more than an hour.

Like many others I'd like to see moo2 (or semedo if basey is in the middle) at right back. Cranie hasn't done much wrong, but he's not any better than those two and we should be playing our own players if possible. As I said, defense isn't our major problem at the moment, so moo2 wouldn't be the risk he may have been previously.
  • not one player was anything above a 5 so none of them were fit to wear the shirt
