Seriously....can we help this situation.

Surely there's something we can do to lift the crowd and create a more positive place. I came out of the Valley for the first time last night distraught at what is going on with our club and I am definitely a rose-tinted fan. We have to turn it around as much as the players, we seem to have accepted our fall into the league below and it appears they have too. I am shocked at how quickly our fall is happening and something has to be done.

I'll throw out an idea, which I'm sure will get shot down as being desperate and up there with Operation Ewok, but maybe it'll get people thinking about other ideas. How about we produce a flyer to hand out before a forthcoming home game, a positive one which reminds fans of where Charlton have come from, pictures of the Valley when we came back, fans clearing the debris and then asking them to Get behind Charlton, like a Lord Kitchener Poster, "Your Charlton Needs You".

Feeling a bit desperate this morning, I know it's only a game and all that but I don't want to accept our current situation as inevitable.

Cheers

  • The players could play football.
  • Nice try, Nug.

The atmosphere at The Valley isn't what it was - or could be again.

The crowd respond to the team, though - and if the team's not doing it, the crowd doesn't either.
  • Maybe we could laugh a lil' bit more
  • For periods of the game the fans did get behind the team but there was absolutely no response from the players.....
  • More banners?

Yeah....stupid idea really, need a player or two to be leaders for the team and the fans. Who though?
  • perhaps get chrissy powell over to come and warm up the crowd before hand, make him the announcer..

Where is he working at the moment?

    :)
  • Like you're way of thinking Nug, at least you're trying to think ahead and not behind.

I've slagged off the fickleness of our fans plenty of times in the past.

Last night though I felt the fans really did try to get behind the team but those tossers disgracing our shirt (with some exceptions) did not respond and to my eyes simply jacked it in with 20 minutes or so to go.

I was going to join in with "you're not fit to wear the shirt" for only the second time, Wycombe being the first. I didn't because Holland and Hudson came by acknowledging the fans which may mean that they care - who knows?

Last night was emphatically not the fault of the fans. There have been times in the past when the fans have been an absolute disgrace.

At least there is a silver lining. Those of us who stay to the end avoid the traffic.
  • when we got out i just looked at the west stand car park with all the mercs and bentleys and land rovers and thought... Lets smash them all up!! we pay for them we own them not the muppets who allegedly represent us on the pitch. but then i remeberd im good bloke and went got a burger instead..

  • Perhaps the club could run an 'OPERATION THREE POINTS' day for the Derby game.

In all seriousness we have got to the point where we as fans can do nothing more, it's all gotta come from the players/managment/board now if we are ever gonna move forward.
  • If by bloody miracle a win or two came along the change from the fans would be instant, instead of doom and gloom it would be more up and at em,
the atmos will be fantastic when it turns, and with a new manager i think it will.
  • Spot on Ketters
  • I really thought the atmosphere, althou deadly quiet at some points wasn't as bad as it has been, the booing wasn't until quite late on, I think even as fans we are resigned, during the game even the booers couldn't be arsed to boo

After the game the players got what they deserved from the 5k or so who lasted until the final whistle
  • I also think with a small turn in fortune we could be as loud as we once were, just look at when the ref/lino had one of their many 'odd' decisions, a full Vocal attack from the whole stadium
  • see i dont think they did get what they deserved. whats the saying... bout you cant dress up a wotsit or whatever. The players are the not the quality of standard we are used to but am sure even NSS said the other day the only thing we can now do is support them. even if it is crap. We all need to do our bit to get out of this hole we are in. And what does everyone do?

Thats not support, as I said its a vicious circle and its not going to get any better. we boo, the players cower. not suprised if Jay Mc and Gillespie feigned injury last night and may be a few more might feign injuries this week. anything rather than come out and play in front of that crowd.

as said, we have some right wnakers that "support" our team.
  • Len hit it on the head people did try but it was so obvious that after 20 mins r so that the players were not going to respond correctly. The casing point for me was that after we scored the noise level was as high as it could be and we concede a stoopid freekick and we make a hash trying to stop it going in.

the players gave up with no reason too the fans gave up with reason too not nice but true, I have advocated getting behind them and i did try last night but in all honesty not one of them deserved my support
