  • or from 40 yards the keeper can stand in the middle of his goal as he'll have enough time to go the right way when he sees where the kick is aiming .... well, unless you're Weaver
  • great great strike shockin preparation from keeper/coaching staff
  • the management team would have spotted it if it had been on youtube ;-)
  • if it'd been on you tube - we'd have offered to sign him for £3m in January ...
  • bring back the taxi driver goalkeeping coach
  • Weaver lined up against a Soton free-kick the other week way over to one side leaving the other side vulnerable. Got away with it then, but he got caught out tonight - the sooner we start learning from our mistakes, rather than repeating them, the better
  • Can't believe folk are blaming Weaver yet again!!
Really this is just OTT...every time he get's beaten it seems he should have stopped it...I'm gonna say that sometimes you have to put your hand up and say that an oppos goal was fantastic...no goalkeeper could have stopped that....right off the inside of the post.Could Ronaldo or Beckham have struck one better....NO of course not and would the pundits be blaming the keeper who they beat...NO of course not...but because it's Nicky Weaver of course it's a mistake.
Mind you, had the ref have made them take the free kick from where the offence took place...a good three yards further back...then we probably wouldn't be discussing this.

    ................

The old cliche springs to mind, a keeper is only as good as the defence in front of him.
  • and the defence in front of him is only as good as the midfield, which we somehow forgot to put out last night.

Sorry SoundAs, being at a game for once I had a clear view, and Weaver's positioning was shocking. He had ample time to line up the wall, and get to the middle of the goal, if he had stood in the middle, and got his fingertips to it I would have said fair enough, but he was so far from the ball it was embarrassing.

Still rest easy chaps, we are flying back to Portugal today, so things will improve.

Our record since moving now stands at something like 12 games seen, one victory, one draw, ten defeats...

So it could be worse then!! ;-)
  • At least the win was "Denis in the last minute..."
  • I was directly in line with it. It went in off the inside of the post.

No keeper would have saved it. He has messed up on quite a few things lately, but that one you can't blame IMO.
  • im not pointing the blame solely at weaver more the fact the geezer done the same thing last week a player on the post stops the goal bad preparation IMO

Shaun Bartlett - best post man ever!

HOW CAN YOU BE DIRECTLY IN LINE WITH IT YOU SIT TO THE LEFT OF OUR PENALTY BOX LOOKING FROM THE NORTH STAND AND IT WOZ TAKEN FROM THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE BOX ;-)

With Weaver running like a sprinter to get to the point where any keeper should have been in the first place, he didn't even give himself a chance, that's my point AFKA. I stand my ground, it was awful goalkeeping.

When we employed this tatic can't remember conceding many.
  • I think that would have beaten ANY keeper......that was the view of those around me as well.
Had he have been further to HIS left and the guy stuck it in the opposite corner there would be those blaming him for being too far to his left on the line.
Can't win sometimes as a keeper...especially when some have the knives out for you....everything suddenly get's SUPER analysed and you get torn to shreds. Not having a great season by any means is Weaver and I'll blame him when I think it's fair but that goal last night was a peach.
  • Maybe instead of blaming Weaver we should look at the ridiculous unnecessary foul by our rock skipper....

  • Saw the goal on SSN this morning. They said a wonderful strike from 20 yards. It was about 15 yards outside the box!!!!! And was more like a flighted cross.
  • Thought Weaver should have covered it, but I was sitted at a weird angle to it.

Weaver lacks all confidence, mainly brought on because the defence make so many mistakes. But then the defence are nervous as they don't have a commanding keeper behind them. One of the many problems we have week after week
  • I like Weaver, but in my opnion he should have stopped that goal.
  • Looked like a keeper mistake to me, but how many points has he saved us this season? Quite a few I think.
  • looked an amzing strike from where i was to be honest, used to like the scotty parker kins idea of standing over the ball and lininng up the wall from there always worked well..
  • The fact is if our current coaches should have the savey to insist we have a guy on the post as Curbishley always did. I don't remember many balls going in past Shaun Bartlett as someone else has pointed out.
