Jesus H Christ, some of you need to get a real grip of yourselves. We're looking like a bunch of kids who have had their toy taken away from them
We are currently ranked 44 out of 92 professional teams. That means their are 48 teams ranked below us, fans up and down the country who go football every week not bleating about the 'death of their club' or their lack of future, but just quietly getting on with it, and in most cases enjoying it.
This is football.
You have good times, you have bad times. If you can't handle the bad times, then this isn't the club for you.
Are we bankrupt?
Are we in administration?
Have we been deducted 30 points?
Do we have a transfer embargo hanging over us?
Have we just lost a multimillion pound court case?
NO. There are plenty of clubs in far worse situations than us, and we've been in far worse situations than this ourselves. Overstating the extent of the problem is just as bad, if not worse, than understating it. And Mascot88 you don't even have the excuse of being in the pub all evening drowning your sorrows.
If we go down the club will go into administration......
we will then have to sell again, we will have to sell anyway as we don't have parachute payments next year....
there is alreay trend of clubs falling through the leagues, sheff weds, nott forest, leeds... we and watford are next on that list....
Im just saying how I see it....
also personally I dont care how I am percieved by other clubs, We are slipping into an abyss that no one has any idea when this slide is gonna end......

No mate ive woken up with a hangover you wouldnt believe, having checked the final score at 4am.
Feel free to cue up and have a go at me then.......
But was Doncaster being bottom yesterday the death of them ?
Was Derby going a year without a win the death of them ?
No.
We came closer to actually dying as a club in the 80s more than most clubs ever have done, and we should never overplay that statement. What is the worst that can happen ? We will be playing in League 1 next season. Big deal, no one wants it, and should be doing everything we possibly can to avoid it, but it certainly won't be the death of us.

What on Earth do you base that on? Honestly there's enough bollocks on this board as it is without paper rumour bullshit as gospel. Why will we go into administration if we go down? Because we, like every single other club outside the top flight are deep in debt and struggling to pay wages?
Not sure if you've noticed this, but we've been shedding anyone who 'earned' high wages consistently over the past two seasons. Look at the squad now - not exactly got a lot of those premiership 'earners' on our books have we?
And PP is right - we aren't getting ANY other manager, let alone Curbishley. We're 'stuck' with Parkinson precisely to AVOID the sort of scenario you're predicting.
As AFKA said, the 80s was a much dire situation. We nearly went extinct.
If the worst happens then fair enough. We gotta deal with it. Additionally I am sure we can take a leaf out of those who followed the club in the 79-80 season for starters. Anyway we are not in April/May yet so lets enjoy the ride however bumpy it is.If anyone wants to bail out then feel free to do just that. There are other pastimes available like following Man United.

Nice post. Some of us are too young to have been envolved in the real turmoil the Club has been through and could do well to remember that the club has been through much worse. Myself included.

I have found a copy of an article I read in a Malaysian newspaper a few weeks ago which estimated the debt of every club in the Premiership. Yes, that's right, that elite division in which Charlton were proudly positioned a very short time ago. It makes interesting reading. Every club was in debt to varying degress. Obviously the earning potential in the top flight is that much better and the value of players may be able to offset much of the debt as well but the point is that no football club is immune from administration in the current climate.
The version in the newspaper had a list of every club and its estimated debt.
There may be some journalistic licence in there but it's an interesting short read. Link at the bottom of this post.
Most of Charlton's loans are from the directors, the club owns its ground and training ground, some of the players have a bit of value in them (maybe not very much!) but financially are we worse off than other clubs that have experienced similar predicaments?

[cite]Posted By: mascot88[/cite]I just cant see the end of this cycle...
Thats the nature of these things, we could not see the end of the pointless run in the relegation season and then came Wimbledon 2-0 or was it Newcastle 2-2, and we could not see the end of the on the trot wins in the Championship winning season then Swindon came along, bottom of the table, moneyless ( theree was a collection for them at the Valley at half time to send their kids to a tournament), Kiely throws the ball in the back of the net and our 12 match winning streak came to an end.
Yes it's bloody depressing and it's been going on for nearly a year but it has been worse (70's were worse than 80's) and it will get better. Now is not the time to panic. We have to take our medicine and get better. If that means we lose 7,000 spoiled brats who haven't seen anything other than Premiership mediocrity, then we'll be better off without them. The posts about Doncaster, Blackpool and Derby were bang on. It's called a season for a reason and we know we still have a squad of players who can get us out of this. Moaning about it's not going to make any positive difference. Booing the players isn't going to make any positive difference. What we have to do is get behind our team. We will get a break and a result soon and the momentum of that could get us moving again. If we go down, it's a fact of life - no-one's died. Bigger clubs than ours have done it before and if Palace and Millwall are in a higher division then we'll have to put a brave face on it and take it. We've dished it out for long enough.

Spot on - It's called football, you take the rough with the smooth.
Was more depressed at the negativity from other fans than I was at being bottom (which is bad enough) but glad to see some perspective and measured thought.
Having being in a mess before is not a reason to be happy about being in a mess again but there are lessons to be learnt.
As fans we were more together in the 80s and more active.

Sorry but you are wrong this squad of players are not good enough to get us out of this mess.As much as I have slated Pardew, this squad of players aren't fit to wear the shirt, there is not enough feeling for our great club and that is a massive part of the present problem.
when we were shit before(relegated 1980) we had spent 20+ seasons in the 2nd and 3rd tiers of english football, we were one of the poorest(home attendances) supported clubs and had never spent any 'big' money..........
for us to be where we are as a football team is an absolute disgrace considering we were top spenders last season and we average over 20k +
when we were crap b4 it didn't hurt me as much because we'd been crap from when i started watching(1976) but to have tasted the high life(not as exciting as some would have liked it) and to see the demise of our team really really hurts ..
