Blackpool V Charlton. Just got back

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
Well I am just shellshocked.

That was a very worrying display.

No ideas, no depth or strength.

After seeing that...will we stay up? If we continue where players seem disinterested and talentless in equal measure then no we won't stay up. It does not look good

1) Who are we going to employ as a manager other than PP? That is not a dig at PP, I just think he is our only feasible choice for a manager.

2) Who else wants to inherit a threadbare squad made up of loan players who frankly wont give a gnats chuff when the seasons out and we are in League 1.

We had two very good chances early on but were thwarted by 2 good Radchubka saves but no one really got stuck in.
Second half we conceded a quick goal. I mentioned in that thread where we were told to guess the score, I said once we let one in we would capitulate and let in another.

Exactly this is what happened and conceded a second through poor defending. The 300 or so Charlton fans were stunned beyond belief.

As the game went on, the 2-0 scoreline started to look rather flattering. The inclusion of Dickson and Holland really contributed to nothing.

The rot happened ages ago and the cracks were painted over by expensive investment which quite frankly has ruined the club. The players really need to pull their sleeves up now in the remaining games.

We can sing and support our team until we are blue in the face but it means nothing to the team that looks as if their skills and talent has been sucked out of them. I can't recognise this team anymore.

Charlton 'til I die.

Manc Addick.

  • This really isn't a good time to be a Charlton supporter is it? As AFKA says, sometimes the best thing is to say nothing & hope it works itself out. See you all on Tuesday night?!?
  • excellent post PP
  • There is an element of truth in that - there is nothing we can do really.

Anyway the footy is over for another day.

Time to focus on other things and enjoy the rest whats left of the weekend.

Enjoy the weekend Pete and to the rest of yous

    Onwards and Downwards.
  • Yes excellent post Pork Pie. I am seriously depressed this Saturday morning, I was (obviously) not at the game but it really seems like we are in a very big hole here. We need a Christmas present that delivers this time.
  • Good to hear from you Abs. Here's to a brighter future...just round the corner (it's just a very big corner!)....
  • Cheers fellas for your comments about my posting on todays game,

I just wish I could say something positive about the team but they have not earnt the right to that privilege at all.

It goes for everything in life. Earn not expect.
  • Pork Pie the writing was on the wall at Donny away but I got pelters for tellin it as it was.
  • Have to say I agree. It was freezing when the sun went behind the stand and we seemed to get worst as a team after that happened.

We huffed and puffed but there is no gile, no quality. In Bailey, Dickson, Sam, and even Gray we have players who are not good enough for this level. Sorry to say so but it's true.

We are the worst team I have seen this season, so prepare for the worst ...
  • Doncaster v Charlton Sep 16 2008

Out of all the games I have seen this season - Donny was the only win I have seen. However - it was the only fixture of the five I seen so far that gave me biggest cause for alarm but at the time I was willing to be patient (what else can a fan do?). Yes you got totally berated for telling how it is. The reason why I thought it was the most worrying game was that the home side had about a dozen chances and not converted a single one. Couple that with very odd tactics we employed we really got away with murder that cold September day.

I think that three months down the line, the rose tinted glasses are starting to come off. I think your accurate comments back then (which I agreed with) about that game was stuff that fans really did not want hear to at such an early start to a season where we got 3 wins out of 6 games (I think) which was a decent start. I think three months ago we were all willing to give the managment/team etc the benefit of the doubt back then. 3 months later I believe we really have been exposed to something very ugly. The damage is still being done.
  • Pork Pie. At least you didn't have far to go. I hate those long trips home after a loss. There's no escape from the day and I always just want to get home and forget about it.

  • Anyway I am putting this to bed now. Enjoy the rest of the evening.
  • Thanks PP, so it was that bad eh? I feel sorry for Parky but frankly I doubt whether he will be able to turn things round. It's very hard because the players will see him as more of the same. It's times like these when you need a fresh and strong personality to galvanise the players.

I don't necessarily think the problem is anything more than chronic lack of confidence. I think we have enough quality at this level, just no belief. Lets stop f*cking around and get in Curbs, even in on a short-term basis. He will galvanise things.
  • Is Curbs likely to come to us though, with opportunities at Blackburn & Sunderland beckoning?

Billy Davies is my current choice if we are going to go down the road of new management - still wonder if we can really afford that route, maybe we will have to stick by Parky for non other than financial reasons.
  • I always maintain the best option is to put a blanket over ones head and disregard anything that you dont want to see or hear....but lets flip that coin and accept relegation...anything else is positive (including winning the FA cup)...I can accept relegation (been there, seen it and still have the tee shirt) but what I don't want to face to is paying up the sovs for the bet with the Nigels....OUCH! Can't we say something to the players like....you may not want to play for the shirt but can you at least play for Demelza...?
  • Solidgone, the one consolation I have with the Palace bet is that the money goes to Demelza no matter who wins. It just means that if we lose we're the ones stumping up our hard earn cash rather than the Palace fans.
  • By the way Crazy where are u from seeing as you messaged me shortly after I did.
  • Just got this whipsered to me by a blackpool supporter watching the game from yesterday....

As a Blackpool supporter I just wanted to say what a real shame it was to see your team in such a mess, Yesterday, you began the game competeing for everything, yet after the half hour mark, the writing was on the wall.As for the second half then yes it was mainly all one way, it is such a shame to see a side who want to promote family values throughout its football club slowly falling by the wayside. Charlton to me have always been a pleasure to watch, yet yesterday,it looked like your players had accepted relegation already. As for the loan players,we have a different philosphy here in Blackpool, as we are seen by the masses as a small club,we use our loan players to give us a lift just like Dickenson did for the second time in two weeks yesterday. Simon Grayson tends to sign loan players which have points to prove at the parent club, young lads who are not given opportunities as an example, so I would say that it depends on the players attitude wether or not they perform.
Finally, as someone who visited your ground some years ago in our FA Cup tie, it was a pleasure to go to the valley and watch a game, excellent atmosphere, good, friendly supporters, just what watching football is all about, I just hope you can turn things around this season.
Best Wishes for the rest of the season

exactly, we can scream our nuts off be negative or positive, talk crap about whatever but it isn't gonna give this team any ability.... stick jonjo in he can at least pass the ball forwards ffs

  • Just got back in from the weekend this morning. An overly crowded train from Preston, with no buffet. Tops off a wonderful weekend.

We were pants and it's still pishing me off.
