A few years ago - Derby were imploding. They had no money, masses of debt and a pretty overrated squad.
They ended up by blooding a stack of youngsters (Giles Barnes, Tom Huddlestone and Lee Camp) to name but a few and they struggled - but survived.
After that they just got better and better and ended up in the Prem (albeit too early).
What I like though is the way they played....naive and gung-ho at times but it reaped rewards to have kids with passion.
Look at the way Southampton are playing this season....it's incredibly easy on the eye and again - they lose more than they win but it's invaluable experience for them and they should stay up
I stopped loving Charlton a few years ago when I looked at the players and couldn't really relate to any of them...there was no passion from either perspective
If we give these kids a chance and they start hearing us chanting (in a good way) their names they will enjoy playing for the club more and more and will give more. It's reciprocal
I don't profess to be an expert but I do know that us fans would love to see entertaining - if occasionally naive - football at Charlton. This is something we are never likely to see under Curbs so if we don't get our first option of AC then I hope we can bury the hatchet with Billy and let bygones be bygones
Incidentally my 3rd choice would be Gus Poyet as I think he is very knowledgeable and very underrated and would be a coup
