What has Parky got to do ?

Parky is in charge for now for better or worse. Next three games - QPR (A) Southampton (H) and Blackpool (A) - What points haul will he need to secure a longer than caretaker roll. I think 4 points is a tall order under the circumstances. If I am right and we do get that or less can we afford to drag things on longer ? and just hope he does better. Personally I dont think we can. Does anyone think we will get more than 4 ?

Apologies for plundering into the football cliche book, but lets just take each game as it comes, and treat every one like a cup final.

Football is one of the most incredibly fickle businesses in the world. A crisis can turn into a run within a few weeks, fragile confidence can be completely wiped out with a good win.

Managers get judged quicker and quicker these days, particularly those who have the unenviable task of taking over in the middle of a season. If we manage to claw out a victory on Tuesday, then follow it up with another on Saturday, our server will be crashing with people saying give Parky the job and talking about play off potential.

Lets just see what happens over the next couple of games, while at the same time seriously putting the feelers around the football world on who might be interested, and who isn't in the long-term job here.
  • Two wins in a week eh ! Pass us a pair of the rose tinted specs please. Four wins all season but it could happen.
  • Anything can happen.

    B-E-L-I-E-V-E !!
  • If you are talking about this as a job "trial" then he needs at least four points and beating Saints is an absolute must. A loss at QPR would be understandable but a point at Blackpool should not be that hard to get.

Bottom line is that Parkinson's first job must be to shore up the defence, no side conceeding nearly two goals per game (31 conceeded so far in 18 games) has any hope of staying up.
  • Not cheered me up much Ormiston.
  • Sorry chief, I would if I could but I just can't see how a team as fragile as we are can pick up more than one win from these games. What we need now is a couple of dour 0-0 draws to at least get something to build from.
  • Tend to agree that 4 points is not a goer. players need a new face to tell them that they are good players. How can Parky do that now when thats what he should have been doing for months anyway.

i think its more than just about points. If he managed only two points but got the team playing much more effectively and conceding less goals for example that could have a big impact. I suspect he has rather longer than 3, 5 or 6 at least is more likely, although of course if he lost the three mentioned all 5-0 that might make things a little different.
  • Got to sort the back four out.
I Know we've not got much to choose from but I'd go with Basey at left back as he seems a lot more defensive minded than Youga.
Then Hudson and hopefully if fit, Fortune.Fortune is a bit of a liability(King of the understatement!) but if 'coached' through a game from somebody less erratic (Hudson) can be effective. It was just a few years ago remember that Alan Shearer always found himself tucked away in Jonnys pocket when the Geordies came to the valley, so we have to hope he can re-discover something.

Then at right back,Semedo.Controversial i know.Seen him a couple of times at centre mid and a couple of times at full back and for me this is where he's more comfortable and again he seems to have more of a defensive brain than 'killa'.

Midfield. Not a flucking scooby, but if we can shore things up at the back then hopefully things will start falling into place.
  • u got my back 4 then spot on

Really had high hopes for Semedo as a defensive midfielder but thought he was annonymous on Saturday. Agree he should be tried at fullback but i'd prefer to see him on the left.
  • 7 might convince the board he is a worthwhile appointment - I reckon
    5 is a maybe
    Less we are going down!
