Before we get carried away !

Since Alan Pardews departure we have as you would expect seen all sorts of posts and speculation on this board. Make no mistake we are in a worse situation now than we were before the Sheffield game. We are in the bottom three. Managerless and potless. The group of players we have are so low in confidence that if it was on the floor then it would be an improvement. The fans are in shock at the clubs demise and the board are looking for the lifeboats. It is going to take a monumental effort to sort this season out. Was Pardews exit right ? yes I think so but we are now just as rudderless and can see the waves breaking on the rocks. The direction we must have can only come from the board. They must now make an appoinment that we all can believe in. Whatever Phil Parkinson does I don`t think he will have the confidence of all the fans. It is not the cheap option we now need it has to be the right one and no other. Years of hard work in building Charlton up are in serious danger of being wasted. The man the board MUST target is Alan Curbishley. If he is not interested then I genuinely believe we will be relegated this season.

  • If only Zabeel had taken over.... All may have been different!
  • Once again spot on, excellent post guru
  • its all quiet on the Curbs front, which suggests its not been ruled out. He may come in for the rest of the season as a favour if parky fails, but I can't see him staying on longer than that. Perhaps to bring Kins on would be nice. I don't get the impression that Mr C is in love with the club if he ever was though.
  • For me, it all points to Curbs.
Lets not forget Redknapp went back to Portsmouth after managing Southampton.
If you dont ask you'll never know
  • As said previously I would be delighted with Alan ... always liked him
  • er yeah redknapp and Curbs separated at birth... (not)
  • The bottom line is we need 40 points from a possible 84 to be sure of survival (Leicester went down with 52 last season). With 24 games to go that's an average 0f more than a point per game, almost 2 points really. So given the current state of things can we get a miracle worker on a shoestring budget? Seems to me our best hope is that there are 3 worse teams come next May.
  • I think my point is about former managers returning to former clubs.

The more I've thought about this overnight and this morning, the more I am convinced SHG is right. The board surely must target Curbs... offer it to him with every inducement they can muster until to the end of the season and then see where we are.

Use whatever argument it takes - unfinished business, the precendent of Harry and Portsmouth, keep us up and we'll name a stand after you etc etc.

There was a slightly sour taste at the end of Curbs reign, a feeling he'd stayed around just a little too long and we had grown bored by him. It was unfair and here is a chance for him to come back for six months , abolish the taste of that slightly unsatisfactory end to his Charlton career and instead add a new final chapter to the book, in which he emerges on the last page as a legend who will forever be remembered as the saviour of SE7.

Yes, I'm a romantic. But it doesn't necessarily mean I'm wrong!
  • Agree totally with your post Nigel, not sure if there is anyone who can do the job better than he could. Never thought I would say this but bring back Curbs.

  • it will take a monumental effort to stay up,look how that gap has widened after 3 games. It is a massive 2 games in the next week we can either close the gap up or be right in the pooh post Southampton.
