Pardew versus Curbishley

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
Hi to all. Am a West Ham supporter but was saddened to learn of the departure of Alan Pardew today. Results are the name of the game in football and I guess Alan Pardew had long enough in the hot seat to put things right.

I hope whoever the next boss at The Valley is that results improve to stabalise the teams position in the table before hopefully "kicking on" to return to the Premier League. Is Alan Curbishley the man to take you there? I was gutted when Alan left Upton Park but totally agree and undersand his reasons for going. Who needs Director's of Football anyway? The manager must have total control of all team affairs including the sale and purchase of players.

West Ham is also a club in turmoil with "financial concerns" surrounding the Owner, a manager with an unproven track record - but hopefully he will be given time to turn things around.

I wish Charlton success this season and hope that Curbs returns to The Valley to turn your fortunes around and also to prove to the West Ham board what they are missing. Good luck to CAFC.

    Thanks Channon for your input.

I think West Ham is an ideal example of why we shouldnt be asking for players like Di Canio, Costa et al as our next manager by the way.

Just my snap judgement on Zola.
  • Hope whoever takes over restores calm and better fortune than the last 8 games. Di Canio for West Ham was awesome - sorry he didn't perform for CAFC. He truly is a legend at Upton Park. I still have respect for Pards as he got us back to the Prem. Have alwats respected Curbs.
  • Come On Chaltham Athnited
  • Thanks for your kind words Channon.

For me, the problem with Pards was... just what the hell did he do during the week? Where was the coaching? We've been so consistently poor in so many of our aspects of play. Week in and week out their was no improvement.
Today for instance. 1-3 down at half time.. no changes.

We have some terrific players, I still think we should be pushing for promotion with our current squad.

Sorry Pards.. goodbye and good riddance.
  • Di Canio played his part in a very decent charlton side at the time remember we had him at the end of his career.
  • Understand why the resentment exists regarding Pardew. He made some strange decisions whilst in charge at WHU but having had a terrific 1st season in the Prem (finished 9th) was sad when he was sacked the following season just before XMAS. No place for sentiment or loyalty in todays financial world of football regardless of the league your team is in. Come on CAFC - get back on track asap

Di Canio was quality for us. A big reason for us finishing 7th that season.

Shame we never saw him score any great goals, only got a few penalties and a header in the League Cup.
