Short-term decisions for Parky

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
Does he start on Tuesday with Gray (who isn't even in training due to his family crisis) and the boy Waghorn on the bench?

Or does he give Dickson and Mcleod the chance that Pardew was so reluctant to allow them?

Will he persist with 4-5-1 or play two upfront?

Does he stick with with some experienced but under-performing and undermined players or give youth its head, via Shelvey, Wright, Basey etc ?

Will he ask the board to bring in Campo on a short-term loan? That whole story of Magilton and the Ipswich chairman saying Parky had made an approach and then Pardew dismissing it out of hand and saying it was never on his radar was most odd...

  • Can`t really expect too much at QPR can we. Tough under any circumstances these days. However. Saturday will be different. Its a game We should expect to win and the team Parky selects will set the tone for the next few games at least. I think he has to stamp his own style on the selection so I think we can expect some changes other why bother to replace Pardew. Will be tough I think. Like to see some real blood and thunder football at The Valley to get us plebs behind the team. Can`t wait to be honest.
  • Things for Parky to address:

Sit down with Weaver and tell him he believes in him, that he is the best keeper at the club and to get back to proving why he was once an England Under 21 International.

Drop Kelly Youga. Was useless at Plymouth until scoring and the goal just bought him another few games. Get Basey in but make sure Bouazza makes more of a job in helping him out defensively as we all know Basey has a lack of pace. Also very good over a dead ball and would be good to have the option of a lefty to compliment Bailey's right peg and keep the opposition defences guessing.

Keep faith with Yassine. Was the best player on the pitch at both Plymouth and Birmingham and dropping him now will dent a rising confidence.

Hudson to continue as captain and hopefully have Fortune fit as quickly as possible to partner. Linvoy has done ok, but he is not a solution.

In the middle of the park, Bailey needs an arm put round him to tell him to keep digging away, taking shots on and putting his customary big tackles in as his passion in the early stages was infectious. Holland has done a stellar job in a Charlton shirt over the years but I think he is more needed as an aide to Parky with Therry Racon back in asap and Semedo when away from home helping Hudson and his central defensive partner.

Lloyd Sam and Bouazza should be retained out wide just because there are no real better alternatives at this stage. Parky has to reiterate the need to put decent crosses in. We countlessly get in good positions and waste them with poor crossing. It is a key area that needs to be addressed.

Who knows what he should do up front? It's something Pardew couldn't work out for a year and a half and so who knows how long it will take the next manager?!? One thing is for sure that although he may be our best striker Gray needs to get his head in the right frame of mind. He shouldn't be selected until he does even though there aren't any more appealing alternatives. Waghorn has enormous potential from Sunderland sources and showed some zest and nice touches today so maybe he should be given a chance to prove himself. We have a striker in Varney who is shorn of confidence to such an extent I didn't think possible so Parky should also sit him down one on one and talk him through his good moments in a CAFC shirt thus far and restate the reasons we forked out £2 mill for him and tell him to go out there without what looks like the weight of the world on his shoulders. Todorov is too scared to get stuck in and to be honest I wouldn't be too keen if I had done a cruciate in both knees, but the obvious answer is not to select him until he shows a bit more fire in the belly, gets into tackles and takes on some shots. Dicko and McLeod have potential and it is up to Parky to get them to show it a league higher than they have done in the past.

Good luck Parky and let's all get behind the boys on Tuesday and hopefully they'll do some long hard thinking over the weekend and come up with a real point to prove.

Onwards and Upwards. C'mon you Addicks.
  • Build from the back.Keep clean sheets.Goals will come.

    simple!
  • Do you fancy the job, Carly Burn ? !
  • Me Nige? Nah.

I'm full of crap ideas, crap tactics and would probably be pretty bad in the transfer market if my wardrobe is anything to go by.
And the excuses i come up with really do beggar belief, just ask my boss.

All this,i think, has been done to death at the valley recently.
  • Agree with Bristol Addick especially about Basey for Youga. Youga is a complete clown in my opinion.
  • What Bristol Addick said. I'll throw his name in the ring.
  • .... surname's not Johnson is it ;-)
  • Joking apart and regardless of his own lack of credentials for the job, Carly Burn is surely right in saying the priroity is building from the back and keeping clean sheets.

Even though we seem to have no idea who are best strikers are, the defence is an even bigger mess. Just been looking at the table and we've leaked 31 goals in 18 matches - way more than even Doncaster and Forest.

So posting as Carly Burn, you are actually the real Alan Pardew.
Who would have thought it ......?

    ;o)

  • If there was just one thing I'd like him to do, it's teach the defence when to (and when not to) hoof the ball.
