He has got the ability to do a job for us. He is definitely lacking in confidence & he desperately needs all of us to get behind him if he's playing. He does work his socks off, which is always a good thing, though has missed a couple of howlers its fair to say. Also had his fair share of bad luck, & some pretty poor service to contend with.
Getting on a players back when they are down doesn't always yield the best results.
I for one, will be cheering him on when he starts his next game for us.
I don't remember him scoring too many goals when people weren't booing the team. And his confidence is low because he's scored two goals all season which is quite simply pathetic. Drop him. We have no room to be complacent about that sort of thing. If we were doing alright in the league I could maybe understand keeping him in the team but as it stands at the moment, he should have been put in the reserves weeks ago.
And Pardew is still harping on about him being a really important player for us this year. Yes. I agree. Important in our serious lack of goals and threat,
He will score goals, lets face it who in our team has scored goals regularly since bent? The guy is a decent player. Alot of people on here say we wont moan if we see a guy is giving his all, Well there aint to many who give their all like Varns. so GET BEHIND HIM.

Do you seriously believe that if he plays every game til the end of the season he'll get more than 10-11 goals? Because I don't, not for one second! No doubt he'll score a couple due to the law of averages (I mean how many chances has he missed so far) but never enough to be our "main man" or get us anywhere near where we should be.
Varns has had a tough period but you can't fault his attitude and effort.
However, I think it would be a kindness to pull him out of the team for a couple of matches now, just to remove the pressure and sheer weight of expectation on him (including his own) to score.
Because his attitude is first class, he'll come good in time.
Rooney was still playing reasonably well for Man Utd even if he wasnt scoring England...
How long do you stick with a player that while showing all the effort in the world can't do his job? You wouldn't player a keeper that could only catch the ball 2 times out of 10 (unless you were spurs) why do you then persist with a Striker that can score only 1 in 10 opportunities (which is probably being generous). I hope he does come good, i really do, christ knows we need him to... but i agree with Oggy, there is definately an element of trying to hard and giving someone else a run might work for all involved.

But, he never will be a goal scorer, that's it
