My Dundee badge i swapped with one of there boys when we played QPR away. What a great piss up in the St Martins Tavern that was.Thinking of making a trip up there.
The Dundee Connection started in our Selhurst Park days, used to drink with them occasionally at The Goathouse, and on the odd occasion at away games.....good bunch of lads...used to get an overnight bus on a Friday night, drinking all the way and arrive early Saturday morning.
Spooky coincidence time, I received this from Nick Campbell (one of the Dundee lads) only last night:
Hi Clive,
I finally managed to get my backside in gear and get in touch. I’m not very good at this communicating lark anymore!! I hope life is treating you well. What are you up to nowadays? I see Charlton are moving in the right direction, hopefully back to where they belong. One day soon I’ll make it back to the Valley.
I’m doing good, living the high-life in Aberdeen. I’ve pretty much lived here since I left the Army in ’98, with a few excursions here and there. For my sins, I’m still a season ticket holder at Dundee, pretty much get to all the home games and the occasional away game. I’m contracting for one of the big oil companies, ConocoPhillips, working in the IT department. I’ve been in IT since I left the Army too.
It’s good to hear you still keep in touch with John Wright, and I see from my brothers Facebook that you have a few of the old crew on your Facebook site. I’d always wondered what had happened to John, Geoff Hales, Dave Avery, etc. It brought back fond memories seeing the photo of you guys in the football shirts.
I think the link with them started when they were on a stag do in Brighton and watched us get beat 7-1 (maybe an urban myth), I certainly remember the St Martins Tavern before the QPR game with North Stand Steve, Lee Southern, Ash tray on here and little Mark playing with fireworks before he was famous!
IN the pic is Vin who live down here now. Not sure he will be in Carlisle but he will be having a beer with us somewhere on St Georges Day even tho he is as scottish as haggis.
Work with a dundee fan, he was a 'casual'. He has the 'lacoste crocodile' tattoo on his neck. He's a proper hard little bastard. I dont think he know's of our connection, I'll be happy to let him know, keep him onside!
...alot of old photos: inc Henry, Alex Wright & others on SoccerAM (12 years ago), the CAFC B52s quizteam and many others. Will start loading/scanning them later. That gives everyone time to pay Me off ask nicely NOT to put certain pictures on CL.
