Wagstaff and Yusseff out on loan

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
Gone to Northwich Victoria on initial one-month loans, bit further down that I would have thought, Blue Square Premier.

  • Jesus, poor sods.
  • That's a massive step down from the level Wagstaff was last on loan to, what's the logic behind it?

Not good enough for league football ?
  • Good for Yussef to go out and get games. BSP was good for Randolph and Elliot. Eliiot and Wagstaff made the point that going out on loan helped them not just as players but as young men growing up.

Northwich is only one level below Wagstaff's last loan at Bournemouth (They look to be heading there anyway) so not a "massive step down but still disappointing. Really wanted to see him in league 1 or at least top of league 2 but if he is good enough he will shine.

Because Wagstaff isn't that good. At least not yet, its only a division below anyway. A Bournemouth fan said he looked like an average League Two player, from what he saw. Of course he needs more games though for anyone to really judge him properly.

From what I saw of him in pre-season and against Yeovil, I don't think he's as promising as players such as Shelvey, Wright and Solly. Have to remember players like Wright and Basey only went on loan in League Two, not many 18/19 year olds in our reserves will go on loan to a League One club.

In the end, if they impress with Northwich, they'll eventually get a chance at a bigger club and in a higher league.
  • Yes a strange decision to send them to a struggling non league team. I would have thought a league one or two team would benefit them and us more. Hopefully will be good experience for them though.

As I said Wagstaff wasn't great for Bournemouth, they didn't choose to extend his loan (though a new manager coming in probably had something to do with that).

Have to remember Wright didn't manage to get a League One club, and Yussuff hadn't yet gone out on loan, expected it to be League Two or BSP for him.
  • i wasn't that impressed with wagstaff, during the youth cup run others caught the eye more in my opinion,Shelvey,Solly and Yussef
  • I only went to the Sheff Utd 6-0 youth cup game, was Shelvey and Solly for me as well. Yussuff was ok.
  • Waggy is a bit weak physically at the moment.

Once he fills out a bit I think he will be a decent player. He needs to spend some time in the weights room.

  • yussuf is going to be a great player I think. Very versatile, great vision and comfortable on the ball or using both feet.
Seems to be level headed too

Looked class in the youth cup. I'd go as far to say Paul Mortimor like which is high praise indeed.

    Did they play on Saturday?
  • both started in a 4-3-3 according to the NV website...

0-1 defeat to top of the table Burton Albion (bearing in mind Northwich are 22nd)

Wagstaff subbed after 76 after playing as one of the front three, Yussuf played the full 90

Both unnamed in the match report besides the teamsheet obviously
  • Yeah, sounds like Yussuff did well, Wagstaff didn't get into the game as much as they would have liked.

Few opinions from Northwich fans here-

  • I like what i've seen of Yussuff. Plenty of effort ,usefull on both feet and chips in with a few goals too. One for the future i reckon.
