It seems bizarre - here is a company that seemingly just plucked Charlton out of the air, with no understanding of how the press operate in this country, cheerfully announce their intention to buy us & then suddenly pull out after due dilligence.
Its almost as if they did it on a whim - with no concept whatsoever of what they were supposed to be buying in to.
I always thought businesses had strategies, goals & objectives - which are at least moderately researched and advised.
Very, very odd. I wonder if the true story will come out one day - because what we are being told is BS.
I don't believe a word of it I'm afraid, especially as according to Chappell, they wanted it made public not us. I think it fell foul of the desire of the ruler of Dubai to buy Liverpool and when it dawned on them that the deal for Charlton would make that impossible, they pulled out.

I think that is a lot nearer the truth. Either that or they watched that Bristol City game and decided that we'd need far too much investment.

Make you right there. That Bristol game must of had a bearing on things. We were truly awful
I very much doubt a business like Zabeel were put off by recent losses on the pitch. The fact that they even got interested in a CCC club does show that they knew it would be a long term investment to change the fortunes of the club. All their official statements, including this latest one, just don’t add up for me..
So they wanted to announce but were put off by the publicity. Only they said that it was due to economic factors and the family seem quite happy with the publicity of their horse racing stables and the hotels/holiday home resorts. Odd.

I was at the game, it was poor, but we all know that over the last few years there have been many equally poor games. That's why we find ourselves in the Coca Cola, and are no longer the team that on it’s day could beat anyone, as in 2004. Many reasons for it, but the main one comes down to investment.
Zabeel said they were coming in for the long term, and in the long term they would have changed our fortunes. If they were judging as on a game for game basis then they were never the right people for us or any club.
Ultimately I think it's their loss, they could have built something great, and at the fraction of the cost other clubs are being marketed for.
I think it more likely that their due diligence highlighted what it would cost to take a well-run but mid-table CCC side into the Premiership, not especially ours.

I see your point Bing, but wouldn't they have known this before starting due dilligence with us? As I said before none of this adds up...
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]I'm trying hard to find the blessing in disguise of the deal falling thru but I'm struggling ; - )
I think the blessing in disguise is that, despite the obvious financial advantages, the soundbites that have come out since it fell through - this latest offering which IMO highlights their fragility, the knowledge they really want a Prem club (which makes me feel that they would drop us at any time when abetter offer comes along, leaving us royally in the sh1t) and the idea that we're the second club they looked at and walked away - along with the fact we had really no idea what the new mob had in mind, make me think the negatives outweigh the positives.

Good points. It would be a dilemma if they came knocking again knowing what we know now.
[cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]in other words they weren't properly comitted to the sale, which is also born out in the other alleged enquiries that surfaced.
[cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]what do we know really?
If they came knocking again, I would say that was positive and meant they were more committed.

Were you at the Bristol game Joe?
A deal killer if ever i saw one.
The first 25 mins against Bristol, we played some great stuff. As soon as they scored through Bailey's error then the rest of it was not good enough. Confidence is low.

Can’t believe that put them off.

Still, in the past now. Onward and upward.

Bing's post sounds more likely but whatever the reasons, I think there's a silver lining to all this.

Agree with Bing that , given what we know, is the most likely story.

Don't think that had anything to do with it.
I know that it did fella !

A deal killer? Not through my eyes.
Was the Reading game a deal killer?
LOL - well when they announce the deal is back on you don't have far to go from work ; - )
