I’ve started and then stopped writing this about a dozen times, because the truth is, in terms of our manager and the current position we find ourselves in, I’m just not sure, what the answer is, but I don't think that sacking Alan Pardew is it. I know there are compelling statistics and I applaud some of the eloquent arguments and even some of the not so eloquent ones that say otherwise, we care and that should never stop.
It could be that I would feel genuinely bad about asking for Pardew to be sacked, because I actually feel that he is a capable manager as he has proved this in the past. I applauded his arrival as a ‘Charlton’ appointment and perhaps I feel it would be hypocritical of me and somewhat treacherous to now go back on that sentiment.
It could be that it’s because my general personality dictates that usually I want people to fix there own mess and because his undoubted tactical balls ups have contributed to what has happened, I want him to earn his money, sort it out and not leave it to someone else, whilst we pay him off, leaving us potentially in an even worse mess.
It could be that I feel that it’s not only his fault. Financial constraints aside, we have a number of players who are just going through the motions, who seem to be simply too scared or too apathetic to our cause to help us turn things around and why should a change of manager be a catalyst or excuse for them to pull their collective fingers out? I want them to show some professional pride and not hide behind some pathetic, ‘the manager doesn’t understand me’, garbage. Yes a manager should lead, but for christ’s sake, should anyone need to tell a player how to run, close down space, tackle, pass in a straight line? These aren’t confidence issues, they’re basic functions of every football player who ever kicked a ball, regardless of ability.
It could also be that I have a gut feeling that it wouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference and that the moment we left the top flight, I felt that it was possible that we would end up struggling for a while, because of the nature of the condition we were in at the time.
Somehow strangely though, I actually felt positive about it. Knowing that we would once again be in a fight and that just maybe, if we could combine astute buys, with emerging talent, we would re-create the spirit of the late 90’s and come back stronger. The questions I suppose is, are we so far away from that now? Are we any further away from when Curbs second season in sole charge left us in 15th position in this very division?
When I started supporting this fantastic club of ours, misery was pretty much a constant companion and it’s only really in the last ten years where success has replaced that particular partner.
And now misery has returned, but don’t get me wrong I am not embracing it like a long lost Brother, in fact I detest it’s very presence and I truly understand the pain everyone is going through, I share it, believe me I share it and if I thought for one second that ousting our current manager would be the answer to our prayers and that it would once again send our misery inducing companion away to infest someone else’s lives, I would have been in full voice when I first heard the ‘Pardew Out’ songs make a sustained appearance at Portman Road.
But I’m sorry at the moment I just don’t and I doubt if any of my reasons make sense to anyone, because they don’t really make sense to me.
All I can hope is that one of us is right and if I am wrong I hope that someone with more inteligence than me can make the decision that will prevent us from further suffering.

We are arguably in the position we are in partly because we mismanaged the departure of Alan Curbishley; so if we decide to get rid again this time we must have a credible successor in place, be it an outsider or a promotion from within.
If Wyn Grant's figures are correct there are serious financial considerations to consider too. A potential cost of £4.5 million or even £2.5 million is a lot when the parachute money is all gone.
In summary my view is trust the Board, which has got most things right over the last 15 years or so, and will surely have learned from the one (big) mistake made when Curbs left.
Where is Wyn getting these figures from? £4.5m or £2.5m Big difference and based on what exactly.
If by mismanaged you mean not ousting him at least a season previously to when he actually left, while bringing in a well thought-out new managerial appointement, then I whole-heartedly agree ;-)

..." reasonably reliable sources"..... the £2.5m is getting rid of Pardew alone the extra £2m is compensating Parky and paying for any staff the new bloke would bring in. If we promote from within Wyn reckons we'd save most of the £2m.

Pardew has taken us backwards at a time when we needed to be going forward. don't care if he's a nice bloke, if he rescues kittens in his spare time or if he helps old ladies/Matt Holland cross the street.
The results aren't there & a manager should live or die by his results.
It seems like he isn't going to walk - the only question is - how much worse does it get before he goes?
put perfectly that was my stance a month ago feck it it was still my stance on Saturday morning it was still my stance Saturday at midday and it was still mine at 3 pm it was still mine at 15mins past by half past though i was done i couldnt keep that faith anymore i sat there with a7 yr old boy who lives here in nth london and gets ruined for following Charlton he looked at me and said I dont want to come here no more they are not trying their hardest why is that?
When i dont try my hardest Daddy on a saturday you tell me to buck my ideas up or the mgr will sub you so i try harder why are they not scared?
That is from a 7 yr old boy who tyries his hardest to love my team that have given him no reason to do so infact they have given him more reasons not to.
the answer for me is soley with Pardew and i can not no longer take that view.
And it fecking hurts saying it i have no happiness in calling for his head, i have no smugness saying i was right because boy was i wrong i thought he was the man to deliver what i wanted.
He has failed all of us and the sentiment from others will end towards him sooner rather than later if the results dont improve or atleast the performances, but how long can you keep feeling like you are i hope it is a fair while because mine is not a happy place right now
the mighty man yoo won so that cheered him up
