Pards clinging on, loans to come, no South Africans...

KM reporting that Pardew seems to be safe for now.

We are going to be bringing in some loans it appears with some arranged as swaps. But not the much-reported Campo for Ambrose.

No South African takeover interest but we are for sale and looking for a buyer.

The words ‘band aid’ come to mind to be honest.

The loans may or may not work. Optimistically, perhaps they will this time simply on the basis that Pardew hasn’t brought in a successful loan signing since the early performances of Alex Song 20 months ago, so you never know.

But, of course, if he is scouting the likes of Stoke City reserves, then fine, and if he brings in the likes of Glenn Whelan, Ibrahima Sonko, Ryan Shawcross and Dave Kitson, then great, and I think even Pardew might win a game or three if those four were added to the line-up.

However, once Stoke start leaking goals or failing to score any or both…Pulis will want them all back. That’s how it works. Bye Bye Sonko, hello Primus….

Are the Board focusing on not spending too much money prior to a possible sale? This solution may help us climb the table temporarily and make us more attractive to potential buyers but doesn’t solve the fact our manager is woeful and the squad, minus any decent loans, is seriously deficient.

How will the swaps work??

Pards: Hi, Tony, fancy doing a few loan swaps to give your players some game time? Nice win over Arsenal by the way. I beat them when I was at West Ham you know. Great club West Ham.

Pulis: Cheers, sounds a good idea. I guess you still have a few Premier League players on your books and the likes of Sonko and Whelan need some games.

Pards: Prem quality! No problem! So, let’s say we shout you for Whelan, Sonko and Kitson.

Pulis: Yep, I can do that. And who from your lot?

(silence)

Pulis: Hello Pards? You there mate?

Pards: Yeh, I’m here. (coughs).

Pulis: So who do I get for Glenn, Ibby and Dave?

Pards: Erm, let’s see, erm, oh, er…I can do you Aswad Thomas, Dean Sinclair and Stuart Fleetwood. How does that sound?

(a few seconds later)

Pards: Tony? You there mate? Hello…..oh, allright then Izale McLeod, you twisted my arm. Hello? Tony? Tone??

  • LOL..........quality....................
  • Good stuff!
  • Good news. Signing loan players to take the positions of our own, mostly young players whose confidence is shattered already. And most of them turn out to be just as bad as what we have already. See.

LOL - I thought you were making that conversation up until I read that piece
  • whatever the answer is another couple of loanees isn't it. All we are doing is delaying the inevitable and getting ourselves deeper in the mire in the process.

Large...we aint got much wonga come January as it is.
Loans are really the only option IF we need to bring in fresh blood.
We really are in a mess mate and any proposal put forward is going to be scrutinised and commented on as never before.
I said this yesterday but at the beggining of the season I said I'm going to give the bloke until Christmas and I'm gonna stick by that...time is running out.
Speaking for myself I'm not going to jump on the Pard's out bandwagon just yet....but I'm getting close!
  • to be fair Pards was forced into the loans market as we sold/moved on any sort of cover and some positions parts of the first team, without any proper budget to replace them.
  • As for loans..Who remembers the impact Alan Mcdonald had when he came from QPR? My one and only hope, and that's all I have left to cling onto at the moment, is that we can get someone like that who can help lift us up the table.

  • I have no problems with loans. Good loans like Carson and Costa have worked and Hull used Fraser Campbell well last year. Birmingham had three Arsenal players when they went up two years ago. Even palace got the best out of Scott Sinclair and are using Craig Beattie to do a job.

The holds back one of our players arguement doesn't stand up for me either. If a better player in available then play him or should we have said no to Costa to not hold back Fortune.

What doesn't work is loans for the sake of loans and constantly changing and unbalancing the side to accommodate them.
  • Exactly, Henry. Spot on.

Bu there have been too many that do seem to be ''loans for the sake of loans'' and never realistically offered a prospect of anything different or better to what we already had.

Why do I get the feeling that if Fleetwood was somebody else's player and was available as a loanee, Mr Pardew would probably take him and play him ? !
  • Absolutely right Henry

Loan deals by their very nature are short term so for the club to gain value the player concerned needs to be
    a) better than you have available at that time
    b) fit enough to make an immediate contribution to the side
    c) complement the players already in the side

You name two perfect examples (I think Neal Heaney was another) but how many recent loan signings can be said to meet this criteria

Sodje did a half decent job alongside Fortune last season for a while but I'm struggling to think of another successful Pardew loan.

Song - talented but inconsistent, wasn't the ideal situation for him to come into
Sodje - decent at times, wasn't good enough or consistent enough for a team trying to get promoted
Mills - good for a while, ended badly
Halford - not enough of an improvement to justify dropping Moutaouakil, offered less going forward
Cook - pointless, was trying to get fit, and we already had players that could play there
Sinclair - even more pointless as we already had Cook
Lita - might be an improvement now, didn't get the goals we needed him to though
Cranie - no better than what we have at full back, not the ideal signing as he's another young player that makes mistakes, has to come in and handle the pressure
Primus - better than Sodje, a bit like Cook though he wants to get fit
Bouazza - we needed another winger, no real improvement on what we have/had. Just as inconsistent as our other attacking midfielders and wingers.

Thats 10 players. We could make a team out of them if we loan a goalkeeper.

    Lita Sinclair
    Cook Song Halford Bouazza
    Cranie Primus Sodje Mills

    Have I missed anyone?
  • [cite]Posted By: Addick Addict[/cite]Carson?

Dowie got him in on loan.
