I read that via a Net Addick link, I thought the deal had been done. Let's hope this one has a Spanish grandmother or something and can qualify for residency that way...
I did some scouting around via google and turned up a few articles in Spanish that mentioned him - match reports and the like but not much by way of a club record, though he appears to have picked up a few yellow cards and the odd red which suggests he does a lot of tackling/ball winning, but that's guess work...
This is the club website, but I couldn't find a mention of him there:
It seems that the club is named after the Danube river and they have twice one the Uruguyan championship, the last time being in 2004, so presumably he has some experience in playing in South America's Copa Libertadores. In the team line-ups he's listed as playing just behind the front two, suggesting an attacking midfielder.
I think that Danubio was his former club and Panarol his current outfit...of course all true Charlton fans are fluent Spanish speakers so I don't need to translate the following...
http://www.penarol.org/el_club/el_club.htm
Looking at the El Equipo link he's listed as a "Volante" but no career stats.
"He's a very, very combative player..." says Dowie. Let me be the first to predict another sending off in the very near future, as he takes time to adjust.
Comments
The midfielder is on his way to England to undergo talks with The Addicks, with Penarol president Jose Pedro Damiani claiming a deal is close.
"Mr Pouso has flown to England," said Damiani.
"We have to send the transfer papers and this is painful for us.
"Pouso explained to us that they (Charlton) offered an attractive amount of money and we won't forbid him a step forward in his career.
"Pouso treated Penarol very well, but this transfer will affect the team.
Anyone know anything about the player ?
I'm presuming centre mid, is he attacking, defensive etc.
