Yet even the quickest of glances at Saturday's teamsheet shows the talent that Pardew still has at his disposal. Nicky Weaver is a decent enough keeper; Martin Cranie and Mark Hudson should be a perfectly solid central defensive pairing; it's a youthful midfield but they've still got Darren Ambrose and the on-loan Hameur Bouazza, a £4m signing for Fulham last summer; up front the relatively big money signings of Izale McLeod, Luke Varney and Andy Gray haven't quite worked out and Svetoslav Todorov, unlike McLeod and Varney a proven goalscorer in the Championship, has only been fit enough for seven league starts in the past two years. But if the strikers are struggling, the blame has to lie at Pardew's door. This is undoubtably his team. Yes, he's had to wheel-and-deal, but then so does everyone.
"The jeers that began less than 20 minutes into the game were ringing around The Valley long after the final whistle on Saturday." Pathetic. If that's what these t*ss*rs think is supporting their team through thick and thin I wish they'd fcuk off and stay away. I really really hope that the current board of directors makes a considered decision about whether to stick with Pards or not rather than react like headless chickens to morons who look for any opportunity to stick the boot in. I am not for a moment denying the dire performances that have been served up over the past season and a half but we are 6pts clear of Forest and we are 7pts behind 7th place. There are plenty of precedents for CCC teams turning their fortunes around from this position to make the play-offs. Pardew is struggling to blend in some very promising (but, typically, inconsistent) youngsters. That's not an easy task and the job is made immeasurably harder for him and, more importantly, those very players by numbnuts jeering them at the first opportunity.

I agree that the Board needs to think about the next move very carefully for financial if not footballing reasons.
Part of the reason we are in this situation is because we made mistakes in the way we managed the departure of Alan Curbishley and hopefully we have learned a lesson from that.
I was pleased when Pardew came but his habit of blaming Red, Red, Robin, away fans in the Jimmy Seed etc, etc, in short blaming anyone and anything other than accept a bit of responsibility himself, has seriously grated on me and watching him standing on that touchline, seemingly clueless, like a rabbit in the headlights on Saturday was a defining moment in my eyes as it reminded me of Dowie's demeanour shortly before he left.
I also think that the media have exaggerated the scale of the protests somewhat. I was in Covered end Upper and it was only one or two isolated pockets chanting Pardew out.

Here we go again, follow blindly like sheep, dont criticise, dont moan, keep paying your money like good little supporters.
Sorry, but some people need to get a grip and realise that not everyone is prepared to be dished up, week by week, utter dross and lack of commitment on the pitch, and then the manager coming out with classics like " I think I had better play my best team from now on"
You support the team and club how you like, dont dictate to others how they should, or how they react and respond to the current situation.

I was with you Peanuts until the last para. If I could see a consistant approach to bedding in the young players then fair enough you have to accept that there will be some typical inconsistancy from them but Shelvey started the first game and has now disappeared from the squad. Wright, who has played 40 league games was too tired to be in the 16 at Ipswich but started the two games either side of it. Players like Semedo, Basey and Youga come in and out of the 16 for no apparent reason. Mcleod play one half decent half and has now disappeared. Dickson, who I don't rate, seems to be in and out of the 16 all the time.
We can still turn this around and we can still go up. Up to Saturday I thought that AP was still the man to do that despite the mounting evidence to the contrary but I have been pushed over to the dark side. I hope I'm wrong and that is not just a turn of phrase to deflect future criticism. I hope the players, the coaches and the manager react to Saturday in a positive way with a stuffing of Plymouth and a hard fought win at Birmingham, I really do.
didn't Shelvey start due to injuries and suspensions to midfielders such as Racon, and Bailey hadn't signed at that stage, my memory failing so not sure?
My point being, that peanut or anybody else do not have the right to tell me or anybody else how I should behave or respond to this rubbish we are dished up currently.
We are expected to turn out each week and show passion and commitment to the cause, when the players and Pardew start doing the same, then so will I.
I can accept the squad not being good enough due to financial restirctions, but this squad dont even seem to be trying or showing any of the above, thats a bare minimum surely, commitment, passion and a bit of effort.
Peanuts that is total cock fella oooooooooooooooooooooo here we go people boooo so there are morons and sheep. Why how about the thousands and thousands who sat there and did f- all more like sheep that isnt it ? as for the people who booed ooooooooooooooo dear me yes 3 nil down to one of the few team below us at home.
and people troting out the company line --- and anyone who agrees with the blind faith in CAFc is right --- thats cock as well.
21,000+ people turned up again on Saturday ALL ----- ALL deserve better.

same as I don't appreciate how people speaking on my behalf as a fan in the north stand thinking the same as the people next to me that only show passion to boo but have never sung a song in support of the club in the years I've sat there.
I don't understand why those coming back after half time on saturday purely to boo and shout and jeer at the club - if i was not enjoying myself that much then i would go home or go to the pub. I don't believe that boo'ing and shouting at the players or pards is supporting the club through thick and thin personally and agree with peanuts opinion with regards to that.
You and everyone else can do what you like whether you boo or not, doesn't mean i have to like it or agree with it, or respect you for doing it.
You raise a valid point concerning the crowd reaction to Saturday’s performance but some fans will always over react. Abusing players is unlikely to generate a positive response and is counterproductive but are you arguing the broader response by Charlton fan base is a fickle, knee jerk, jump on the band wagon reaction? If so I feel your comment is well wide of the mark.
I prefer Large Addick’s assessment of the Charlton fan base (elsewhere on this site) and the critique of the playing performances. The majority take a well balanced view. Most recall where we come from and what we experienced before the recent good years.
You will find the vast majority very sincerely hope the “current board of directors makes a considered decision about whether to stick with Pards or not rather than react like headless chickens”
Your tolerance of “the dire performances that have been served up over the past season and a half” is admirable but the concerns extend beyond just the current league position to the reasons why we are in such a position.
You are correct “There are plenty of precedents for CCC teams turning their fortunes around from this position to make the play-offs.” but there are many, many more where they do not. Rather than acting like “morons” I suggest a majority have been desperately searching for a crumb of comfort from the football management genre that is Alan Pardew and are greatly frustrated if not flummoxed by the Nil return.
“Pardew is struggling to blend in some very promising (but, typically, inconsistent) youngsters” You are again correct but a) his style of management seems to hinder such a blend, b) it is not his only remit, c) nor indeed the priority.
Nobody has said it is an easy task but the man does himself no favours and in scheme of things has himself made the job is made "immeasurably harder than any numbnuts jeering at the first opportunity".

Well you're 50% right but I'm younger than you mush. I didn't argue that Pardew's done a good job blending in the youngsters. Some of the decisions have been bewildering but that doesn't make him the idiot that some people think. Its not a easy task and it seems now that he's going to resort to a different approach. Whatever that means, I hope that he'll keep faith and patience with the key youngsters an extended opportunity. They are the only hope for the future. Nor is it "not doing the right thing for the Club" for him not to resign, as has been argued elsewhere. No poster on this board would walk away from a guaranteed income to certain unemployment but, more importantly, no one with professional pride should be expected to wave the white flag rather than tough it out and try to get it right. My point is simple, precisely what purpose is served (other than indulging a moronic "kick the dog" instinct) by jeering the team and manager after 20 minutes of a game? It is often said that some players are not fit to wear the shirt. I say those that after 20 minutes jeer a team which is low on confidence and has youngsters struggling to show their ability are not fit to be called fans. Tin hat on.
personally i think most of our youngsters , jonjo excepted , just aren't good enough for the higher echelons of championship football...
my valley gold is a waste of money but i'll continue to support it

Well, as we all appreciate, something appears to be very amiss behind the scenes .....and that is Alan Pardew's responsibility.
Whatever, the failings with individual players and the team as a whole, surely to boo some of our young inexperienced players after 20 minutes is going to achieve nothing but undermine already frail confidence further.
What do these Boo boys hope to achieve?
Yeah, yeah, I know the arguement that people have paid for the right to behave how they like - but do they really think they are helping the cause ...... or even actually supporting their team?
Are they supporters in the accepted sense of the word - or merely disgruntled paying customers, who've bought something defective so they are going to take it back and abuse the shop staff?
I find it hillarious that some of the tossers as you put them have been the life blood of CAFC for many years through a lot worse than this.
As for their support through thick anfd thin it is US that start the majority of the songs from within the ground.
you pandered to a crowd peanut you got your supporters but i am no tosser and i love this club and i will be there long after Pardew and the board and who ever they put in place in the future
my hatred is for Pardew and what he is doing to the team.

good post.
I agree with Peanuts and Suzi but having had abuse and comments thrown at me for supporting the team at the last two games that is all I'm saying on the matter!
i do not boo i do not sing your not fit to wear the shirt i do not agree with it read every thread i haver ever posted on here about my thoughts on that choice of behaviour
however i will sing for pardews head at every game from last saturday and if you choose not to that is up to you it doesnt make you a tosser but nor does what i do make me one
you havent met me you dont know me as i dont you but tosser i am not
I went downstairs after 10 minutes on saturday as I didn't want to vent my anger at the players, after half time i came up sung pardew out, followed by charlton till i die,I aint no tosser either,I haven't called anyone a tosser for supporting pards, but i agree with every word DA9 has written on this thread.
I can tell you that the majority of people who appeared in the Cons club at half time who were venting their anger, were not "customers", but supporters who have been there over the years through the dross, close to folding in 1984, the move to Selhurst, Upton Park, the Valley clean up that cold March morning in 1989.
Yes expectations have been raised signifigantly over the last 10 years, due to relative success, should we suffer dismal peformances and attitude on the pitch just because of where we've come from and what we have been through?
Do Marks & Spencers let their staff slack now they are succesful again, just because the company under performed in the previous 10-15 years?
Supporters have the right if they wish to show dissatisfaction with performances, I personally dont boo, I wont personally abuse any player, but, I will sing songs such as "what a load of rubbish" if I think they deserve it. Thats the only way a crowd can let the team know instantly how they feel, it has immediate affect.
I would happily stand and clap the team off if they had put in 100% effort but still lost, at the moment there is no effort, no commitment, no passion, what I see is a bunch of pros going through the motions to pick up wages, and not one leader or person willing to drag the team screaming into action,
[cite]Posted By: suzisausage[/cite]I don't believe that boo'ing and shouting at the players or pards is supporting the club through thick and thin
I'm with you on this one. I have finally passed over, as Henry said "to the dark side" but I don't like and never will, the booing of the team or manager during a game. People do, and people will, that's up to them, but personally I think it's counter-productive.
Despite the position we have each reached relative to the manager, we all want the team to succeed and, none of us have a vote as regards whether he goes or stays, that is down to the Board. If Pards remains in place, we need to get behind the team (as best we can). If he stays, we also have to hope that the Board is right and we are wrong about him for the sake of the club we love.
i whole heartly agree with the supporting through thick and thin i really do, i have the programmes and stubbs to prove it, never ever ever have i before felt the urge to want to vocalise my disapproval but that time is with me now i have had enough and i want to let Pardew the board the players to know who i hold accountable for what i am witnessing.
should i wish to do that by calling for the head of the man i hold responsible then i am entitled too without being implied that i am less of a fan if i choose to, nor should anyone on here call those that do tossers.
When i said about those that moan and boo i didnt say they were less of a fan i said it didnt help the players i am now past that point of view i have been far too rose tinted for far too long and now i want change
I do actually think the players are also to blame, think back if Varney had taken his five chances (very very good ones at that) we would of actually won some of those games and be sitting in the top half of the table. What Pardews downside is is the inability to change a game quickly when it needs changing. You could see on Saturday that a player was scared of making the obvious pass out wide for fear of losing the ball so they would play it back to be played wide (bailey etc did this often).
On the plus side. I do think we have a great player in Hudson and Bailey will improve. I think give Pardew five more games and see where we are, we may be fans but we don't run the club. If people want to Boo' then Boo', you and I both know what affect it can have on a situation. If people want Alan out then that's fair too, he has won 6 in 26 games...not good enough! I for one would drop Ambrose, Varney, Basey, Sam, Dickson and Kelly Y, they may have it in them but they are playing at 40% if that.
A few wins and we will fly up that table, its such a tight league.
Comments
not been a bed of roses since 1971 as far as i can recall

i whole heartly agree with the supporting through thick and thin i really do, i have the programmes and stubbs to prove it, never ever ever have i before felt the urge to want to vocalise my disapproval but that time is with me now i have had enough and i want to let Pardew the board the players to know who i hold accountable for what i am witnessing.
should i wish to do that by calling for the head of the man i hold responsible then i am entitled too without being implied that i am less of a fan if i choose to, nor should anyone on here call those that do tossers.
When i said about those that moan and boo i didnt say they were less of a fan i said it didnt help the players i am now past that point of view i have been far too rose tinted for far too long and now i want change
COME ON YOU REDS!!!!
