Pressure, pressure, pressure.
The Barnsley attackers didn't give our defenders a chance to play the ball out of defence. The number of times Macken/Campbell-Ryce/Hume managed to get the ball back to Weaver was.. I lost count really (not that I was counting lol). Now how many times did you see our attackers doing that over the course of the game, maybe once or twice. And what happened? The keeper fluffed his kick half the time.
Half of that was down to not getting out of our own half in the first half, but that was because of our non-existent midfield and it's clearr to see that Bailey's effect has worn off (although he did show glimpses). The first two goals were from set pieces: set pieces that were successfully cleared out of the box, but no-one was there so they had an open shot at goal from 18 yards.
WE NEED SOMEONE (Varney?? Bailey??) TO SIT ON THE EDGE OF THE BOX FROM THESE SET-PIECES.
That would've done a better job of stopping the two goals in my opinion, even I've learnt this from my U16 training... You just cannot leave a huge 40 yards gap from defence to attack, their needs to be a player or two inbetween. Otherrwise we'll just be inviting the other side onto us just as what happened today in the first half.
Just a few thoughts. Wasn't really something, more like a few things. :)

Every weak we get outworked by a collective team that have the will to work, and the will to win.
But anyways, he went for the first time this season today. He left at half time after we joked that he should if we were 3-0 down at half time. He said it just wasn't Charlton and he just couldnt take anotherr 45mins of it, he said it wasn't Charlton and was just depressing. I think he wondered why everyone else bothered anymore.
Oh, and was it only me that noticed Charlton 0-11 Barnsley on the scoreboard today? Was quickly fixed mind you.
Did anyone else notice Pardew's head nearly taken off when a Barnsley player kicked the ball out of play near the end of the match and he had to duck to get out of the way?
