Why these long contracts?

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
Why is it that when you sack a manager you have to pay off the contract? This doesn't happen in real life, does it?
In most jobs you just sign a full-time contract and if you're no good you get sacked with no big pay-off.

If we must pay off a manager why don't we just offer a 6 month contract? If the manager believes he is worthy of a longer term contract then he should prove it.
Why on earth did we offer such a long term contract to Pardew? Now we're stuck in a difficult situation - either we keep hold of a manager who's performing abysmally, or we get rid of him and increase our debt.

  • Cannot argue with that, I find it absurd. If you are sacked, it's because you have clearly failed to achieve and meet your objectives.

By sacking him, we could hurt ourselves financially, although if we don't we could be just as badly hit financially by either going down, or if we stay up, thousands of fans not renewing season tickets next year.
  • I agree – the flipside of course is that it would then be impossible to include compensation clauses should another club come knocking. Wouldn't matter to us now but, for example, Pompey would've missed out on 5mil for 'Arry.

But you could offer better when you see that things are going in the right direction. You don't have to wait until you've won the FA Cup.
  • Can we have a whip round, if everybody on here wacks a ton in the pot I reckon we could get rid of him, the best ton I will ever spend!
