Hope you're not being personal, there, F-Blocker!!! ;-)
  • I agree with you GH and Weegie, it's sad that the fans director role has gone, but with the greatest respect to all of the occupants of the position, what could they really ever do? Even if they were privvy to certain information, they could hardly go blabbing about and break confidences it all over the shop could they?

Also, given the pitiful voting turnout at the last election - despite all of the time and effort that went into it all round - it seems that unfortunately we are in the minority and most people don't really give a monkeys.

As I said earlier on the thread, the fact that the whole thing seems to have been done behind closed doors once the initial nominations was smacks of a carve up to me, but that's only because i am naturally suspicious when there is a lack of transparency about things like this.

That said, if I'd put millions of my hard earned into the club the last thing I'd want is some high and mighty, self-opinionated, know nothing twat thinking he could tell me what to do - so maybe they think they've whittled those types out doing it this way. Dunno.

Surely it was not really about being able to divulge information, the whole raison d'etre for the SD was having a fans voice on the board? The SD was not a card carrying trade union type delegate, rather somebody representative of fans to put forward a fans view point. As a major stakeholder in the Addicks, the fans views should be important to those controlling the clubs destiny.

If you are talking about power, the major shareholders have the muscle but it's important that a Board has members like non-execs who can bring an independant point of view. From a fans perspective I saw the SD role as pretty much that slanted towards the fans perspective.

I think it's a shame the role has gone but I hope the FF provides a similar function in being able to represents the fans perspective. Over to you Rothko et al.

Nah....I've seen you in shorts Weegie - nothing to worry about! ;-p

    We all have, F-Blocker ....!

    ;o)
  • Which is exactly what was worrying me.... ;;;
  • the forum will be like the target 40k group just a soundbite on how to attract more fans. The sad end of the unique relationship between the fans and board,we were always the flagship of a modern club not anymore.
  • It's whatever people make it, so if the 6 of us on there, plus CASDA and the international supporters don't put the club under pressure to do things, and there no change, then yeah it was a pointless change, but we might make this work.

Personally it's going to be interesting how this is going to work, especially the size of it.

  • The point is not what the Fan Directors did (or not) its the fact that we had one at all. Now we dont.
  • Once the club had announced it would be 3 and that if it got any more they would go to a vote, they should have gone to the vote. Even if only handful of people then actually vote at least the whole of the season ticket holders had the opportunity to vote for the people they want to represent them, instead of the club saying these people want the job you can have them.
  • Perhaps Derek might add his thoughts next time he visits?
  • Can someone name the 6 then?

What ended up happening regarding international supporter representation?
  • edited October 2008
I already asked that Van, and nobody answered.
  • It was in the programme. Looked like a right bunch. Rothko was amongst them and actually looked the most "normal" there - which is clearly worrying!
    ;o)
  • .... but for those who didn't get a programme?
  • Well, I'm sorry but I can't name them off the top of my head mate!
    ;o)

I just had a quick look on the main site for you though - as I'm a decent sort of fella - but there's no sign of it on there, at least not that I could see.
  • there is a poster on here who has applied for the international supporters representative and bearing in mind he is international i hope he gets it.
  • me too see Steve, hope he does get it.

I think the other members were a guy called David Rudd, Gary Davenport??? i cant remember the other three after rothko.

Its a bit sad only six people applied out of everyone so goes to show what off-it said, people dont really give a monkeys or perhaps dont have the confidence to do it.

  • I think the number selected is about right, gives good opportunity for a range of opinions to be given, but as Rothko says it is down to those involved to make it what it needs to be. It could turn out to be a great way of ensuring that the fan's voices are heard by the club, it could turn out to be a pointless PR exercise.

As long as those involved are clear about the goals of the forum then I think all will be well.

I would say the time as well B, is it is something that interests me but I can't commit the time running my own business. With reference to the international post,I don't believe somebody who is not based abroad whether they be part-time or permanent should be allowed to represent them.

Thanks mate, appreciate it. I just think that people either don't have the confidence or more likely don't understand the parameters or in my case don't have the spare time.

Confidence perhaps. Perhaps more people will apply next time when they know what is actually involved.
  • It wasn't exactly very widely promoted, either, was it? Just a small piece on the website, or did I miss more?

    Website and programme I believe.
  • [cite]Posted By: kigelia[/cite] as Rothko says it is down to those involved to make it what it needs to be. It could turn out to be a great way of ensuring that the fan's voices are heard by the club, it could turn out to be a pointless PR exercise.

It will totally be down to those involved, club and forum members and other fans, to make it work.

And there are some very clear objectives and definitions in place now, something that wasn't there before.

Two or three stories on the website, at least two articles in the programme, numerous threads on here.

I specifically meant how to apply for it, not just that it was happening - think I saw one thread re that on here linking to an article on the website. But I may have missed others.
  • It was out there, but how much do you have to push something to get people interested?

6 coming forward out of 15,000 season ticket holders ain't bad, but hopefully the forum will do a good job in the next few months and years, that people will banging down Steve Waggott door to get on the board.

My other thing, is I hope the other 5 members of the panel are goign to be available on the message boards, but we will see.
