Basey v Youga

  • Youga had to be dropped after the Bristol City game. He was an embarrassment.

Basey, as everyone seems to agree, is not great but is a solid citizen which is what we need for the next couple of games at least.
  • Unfortunately, Basey is not only slow in terms of pace but also slow in thinking. He has good dead ball delivery, but most of his corners weren't that great. If Ambrose and Sam are in the team for the corners and wide free kicks, then I'd go for Semedo at left back - he is a quality defender. Basey on the bench, as he can cover a few left-sided positions. I still think Youga has a lot to offer, but his confidence is shot, and I'm not sure that Pards knows where to start in sorting that out.
  • Send Youga back to Scunthorpe for a month, so he can be properly coached

    ;o)
  • I suppose it's a silly idea for Basey to play in midfield in front of Youga, and for Semedo to play in midfield in front of MooToo? (Particularly away from home)
  • The silly ideas can often be the best ones..... or at least have what turns out to be a useful element.

In Seth's proposals, I feel we may be just a little too defensive and too limited attackwise ....... however, if it means Basey covers when Youga goes forward and vice versa, fine.

But in Moo2's case, Lloyd Sam is the one to play in front - he is able to run at players and has that bit of flair, and still able to provide Moots with reasonable defensive cover when he goes marauding forward, as we saw against Reading and Burnley.
  • Not too worried by Basey's lack of pace as he seems to know how to defend, which is the main thing. We're talking championship rather than champion's league here, so we can hardly expect the completely faultless all-round world-beater...

As a left-back he reminds me a little bit of Mark Reid, who also had no pace by the time he came to us (and perhaps never did) - but remains one-half of my all-time favourite pair of Charlton full-backs, alongside the legend that was John Humphrey.

Am seriously worried by Youga, though. In fact he scares me, both on his buccaneering runs forward, because you just know there will be no final delivery, and even more as a defender, because he's clueless.

Somebody said somewhere above : ''Youga has everything - but is rash, prone to mistakes and lacks concentration.'' So that's everything as long as we're not counting judgement, composure, consistency and concentration? Great...
  • As you said Nigel, that's why they play for us .... and not Champions League.
  • and that's why we're 20th cos they're not that good........ at the moment!!

Basey is a Charlton player, Youga would leave us at the drop of a hat. Youga is not the kind of player we need, he does not want to play at this level; GET RID.
  • Basey for me.A lot more solid than Youga. And by god do we need solid at the moment.

  • I've seen a few games this season, not all of them, but I like Youga. I have to say he looks a better player at Centre Back....Forest & Cardiff
