They all had a mare first half to be fair, Bailey was very poor Sat though. Your right with that. Reserves put it better than I did, I just wasn't impressed. I know he is young but I we can't use that as an excuse for him. The signs are there, but I dont think he is ready quite yet. He should defo be coming off the bench to play a part in the games though.
On a different note, I sat in a different seat on Sat & I had two people behind me who couldn't stop abusing Ambrose, it was laughable. Especially when Basey cocked up & they continued to shout @ Ambrose. Idiots.
I thought it was extremely unfair to pair him with the hapless Bailey. As if it's not daunting enough making your first team debut, to do it next to someone who has no confidence and in such poor form was bang out of order from Pardew (hats off to them for the 2nd half though, they did improve dramatically).
Like most others I thought all things considered Josh did very well. He showed glimpses of why he was picked. He has excellent vision, his ability to pick a pass was almost Parker-esque and once he got into the game his positional sense improved no end.
Along with Shelvey and Basey, another good home product.
I'm sat somewhere in the middle of both views. In no way did i think he had a mare, but equally i did not think he excelled in the way some describe.
I know its tough, but Josh is really going to have to grab this opportunity. It could be the best one he is ever going to get with us. Shelvey at 2 years younger looks at present the better prospect, and there is little to no chance we will start a game in a competitive Championship with a centre mid combo aged 16 and 18.
Josh's job is in the next couple of games is to prove he is one to equally consider for the long-term.
jeez, compared to some of the other dross out there, and the biggest two were Cranie and Primus imo, Wright did okay. When you consider the circumstances and the fact we were crap 1st half and he was playing alongside Bailey, who is starting to worry me a bit, then Josh did more than okay. I'd stick him alongside Holland tomorrow, Bailey is so low on confidence it's unreal.

Agreed. That's how expected them to come out for the second half. The fact they didn't was either due to Pardew not wanting to ruin Bailey's confidence completely or that old sticking two fingers up at the crwod routine. Of course it may be that Pardew just doesn't see what's right under his nose!
I'd like to see Josh playing alongside someone more dependable and experienced.
I think Bailey is knackered and carrying a knock. Against cardiff he attempted to make up for the two sending offs singlehanded, he needs a free midweek or some light training to get his energy levels back up.
Josh was my tip in close season..the one most likely to succeed. I think if he progresses, he will be future England material.....The only problem with Josh and the out of sorts Nicky, that they play a very similiar style of game...more than once they seemed to get in each others way. Josh was my man of the match, but I have to say Toddy's touch and vision were superb
I was very impressed with Josh. First of all surprised when i saw him in the warm-up, as for some reason I had always imagined he was black - don't know why! Thought he kept his composure in the first half when that was in scant supply elsewhere, and he didn't half have a job to do to compensate for the woeful Bailey. (Pards needs to sort Bailey out PDQ -we have seen he has the talent in his feet, but does he have the mental strength, or is he struggling with a knock as some suggest?)
Josh looked a good all round prospect to me - good tackling, good vision, good passing, and he has a good attitude too from reading his programme interview.

A year at Barnet, 30 League games and valuable match experience, and the Kudos with being presented their Young Player of The Year award.
And he showed he could handle the physical side of the game now.
Imagine if Josh had stayed wrapped in cotton wool in the reserves?
He'd probably be released to Aldershot on a free at the end of the season.
