I'm taking my 5 year old to his first game tomorrow

And I don't know who's more excited (or in my case nervous).

Due to work family and other commitments I can only go a few times a season but tomorrow I'll be there with the little'un, my eldest son (aged 15 and who I successfully managed to persuade that he should be supporting his local Club instead of Man Utd and as a result he's now a Welling season ticket holder!), my Dad (who took me to my first game in 1964 when I was also 5) and my wife (who has never been to a CAFC game either).

Just hope we put on a good show and the lad isn't scarred for life as a result!

  • I'm sure he'll be fine,i took my little 'un to his first away game last saturday at cardiff and he told me he loved football :)
  • Hope the lads put in a performance for you.

Enjoy your day, cant wait till I have kids and can enjoy such a trip.
  • Red White and Black day to so get him down there early for the music and stuff, got a good feeling about tomorow fro some weird reason.
  • Remember taking mine for the first time - brilliant. The pause at the top of the steps before you emerge into the stand and see the ground laid out in front of you - fantastic when it's their first time. Hope you enjoy it as much. And for a five year old, the football doesnt matter much - it's the sight, the sound, the crowd, the atmosphere that they remember.
  • My 3 year old starts his first training session with the community scheme tomorrow morning, can't wait for that. I'll be getting a season ticket for him next season and am hoping to take him to his first game at the end of this season in the playoffs!!!....hope your little 'un enjoys it.
  • Had all three of my boys there the other night (24/15/11) the youngest and the oldest are old hands, the middle one hasnt really ever gotten into football, but ironically he really enjoyed it! The other two were even more downcast than Dad....hope you have a great day mate and long may it last
  • I took my 5 year old to the Wolves game, just about sums up supporting Charlton. We score with a fantastic volley 1 minute into the game...then lose 3-1. By the end of it he asked me if he could support Wolves because they were much better than us........He's chomping at the bit to get to another one though...
  • Thanks everyone and I hope we all have an enjoyable and winning day.
  • Some would say that was tantamount to child cruelty ..............and that you are about to baptise your lad into a lifetime of abject misery .............I would like to confess that I have done it about 5 times already and the grandchildren will be next ......
its just got to be done

have a good one and get some souvenirs to keep for him later
  • The boy had a great day and the fact that we were so awful in the first half thankfully passed him by. His quote when he saw the stadium, "wow it's bigger than 20 Crazee Barns", will live with me forever.
