still no word from the Club re the aborted takeover. I would have expected some comment even if just to rally the fans and assure us that things were going to be okay.
The official site has the news on there, but no response from Murray or Chappell, they must be feeling like us at the moment, and are probably preaparing a well worded statement as we speak..

(Which, incidentally, they are not.)
And whatever they said would be attacked as spin or bullshit. As Curb it says let them lick their wounds
Go easy on them, Large - we know how gutted we are feeling, and it will be a hundred times worse for the directors and especially Richard Murray - he has put his life, soul and money into this club day in, day out for years. Thought he'd finally got it sorted both in his personal interests and the Club's, only to have these so-called 'honourable business men' do the dirty on him. I feel deeply sorry for him - he deserves a bit of a change in fortune more than anyone.

Considering that Murrey has probably just missed out on millions of pounds, I'd have thought he's feeling a hell of a lot worse than we are!!

agree totally with all you say Weegie, only yesterday I said to Mrs Large that I was really pleased for RM and Martin Simons and Roger Alwen especially as they had rescued us, sunk all their money into us and now this was payback time for them and they deserved to walk away with some recompense and our eternal gratitute.
Unfortunatley that hasn't happened. They would have known about this decision for longer than a few hours though and I would have thought they would have prepared a statement for the fans to be released soon after the official statement. If I'm in a minority to think this then so be it, it won't be the first time.
I am sure they found out last night at the Kings Hill meeting and had a board meeting this a.m. before they made the press announcement.
Agree with Weegie re RM. However think we deserve some further comment today particularly from Chappell, although I think from RM would go a lot a further.
totally gutted for RM unfortunately we as fans dont have a affinity with the other new leaders of the PLC it hink they need to be more accessible to the fans.We have had meetings or a meeting cancelled last week because they were not allowed to say anything (the reasons we all understand) but i do feel a fans forum like previously hosted by the club could and should be arranged fairly sharpish to re-assure us or maybe there are things to be worried about, but RM in my eyes you are still a legend, and Mr Chappell come and meet us we as fans need this.
Defo think RM deserves a song for Saturday. If you think we are hurting today, spare a though for Richard. He has not had it easy these last few years.
perhaps instead of attending a meeting involving a hundred people they should do a Q and A at The Valley broadcast on the net so ALL fans, near and far, can hear what they say.
Let's not get too carried away here. I think as much of RM as the next CAFC supporter but it was a business deal after all. I'm sure it's not the first deal he's missed out on, he's a businessman, a good one at that and he knows another one will happen. Lest we forget, when (and if) a deal finally does go through he will make a packet.

I tend to agree. I find comments like he's had the "dirty done on him" a bit silly to be honest. It's business, end of.
If the deal hadn't been right for him, I've no doubt that RM would have had no hesitation in pulling the plug in exactly the same way Zabeel did.
Derek Chappell has admitted he was surprised when Zabeel Investments pulled out of its proposed acquisition of the Addicks, but insisted that little has fundamentally changed at the club following a dramatic fortnight.
Speaking for the first time about the failed takeover by the Dubai firm, the Charlton plc chairman said that there was no financial imperative on the part of the club for the deal to have gone through.
And Chappell also backed the club's players to climb the Championship table in the coming weeks.
"It's not disastrous at all,” said Derek in an interview with BBC LONDON 94.9 following news on Thursday morning that Zabeel Investments had withdrawn its indicative offer for the club.
Charlton's fans have been praised by plc chairman Derek Chappell
"It was an opportunity that the directors considered carefully, and felt what was on offer was very much in the interests of the club, its fans, its staff and its future, and so felt able to be in the situation in the near future to recommend to shareholders that to accept the offer, should it have proceeded.
"It was only an indicative offer, though, so we had to go through a process to see whether that become more concrete, and as we know, they have decided not to proceed."
He added: "I was surprised the deal fell away, but on the other hand a deal is never done until the money is in the bank. I'm old enough and wise enough to know a deal isn't done until it's done.
"We were carrying on with business as usual, because you can't rely on something necessarily going through, although we were hopeful at the time."
Chappell was asked whether Zabeel - which revealed the worsening economic climate in the UK and the current debate over foreign ownership of football clubs prompted its change of heart to look instead at investment opportunities closer to home - would now make an offer for another club.
He replied: "They have made it clear in the statement, which was an agreed statement as opposed to just a club statement, that they have no interest in an English football club in the foreseeable future."
Chappell also revealed that the club was on a sound financial footing, so there was no question of the club's future was hanging on the satisfactory conclusion of the Zabeel deal.
"We're not in a financial situation where we are desperately looking for a buyer," said Derek. "We own our own training ground and have own ground - a lot of clubs aren't in that situation.
"Our only debt outside directors - what I call friendly debt - is a £6m mortgage, so we are not facing hitting a financial brick wall. That certainly wasn't the motivation for considering an offer, indeed, we have obligations as directors to do things in the best interests of the club."
Asked whether Zabeel's decision, and the recent publicity regarding the potential takeover, might lead to other such offers, Chappell admitted it was a possibility, although no one could predict what might happen in the future.
"There are always people looking around football clubs, and likewise I think there are a few clubs available for sale at the moment," he said.
"As part of our obligation to fans, the staff and the future of the club, if somebody approaches us or our advisors, then we obviously have to consider it.
"But we are now in the same situation as if this issue had never come up. Clearly, we are not an organisation with the sort of money behind us that we thought we might have going forward under new ownership, but we're not actually worse off than three weeks ago, just in exactly the same position.
"We had a good summer in terms of correcting our finances during the transfer window, and ended up with what Alan [Pardew] believed was a stronger squad."
Currently in 20th position in the table, Charlton have made a disappointing start to the current campaign, but Chappell backed manager Pardew.
"We are in 20th position, but only six points off fourth," he said. "It's a narrow gap and I've got every confidence we will narrow that gap over next few games.
"If you look at the game on Tuesday, I think every single fan there will say that for the first 25 minutes we were easily the better team. Unfortunately, it went against us.
"No Charlton fan is happy losing two games in a row, but I'm very happy with Alan in the sense that he is our manager and I have no doubt he will pull us through."
Chappell added: "I have been reading the comments from the fans on the official website and it is clear to me that Charlton Athletic supporters are showing their true commitment in times of adversity. I'm looking forward to a great atmosphere at Saturday's game with the fans getting right behind the team."

Don't get ahead of yourself. They still haven't officially announced why Iain Dowie was sacked!!

Just the manager's!

Might get a rally cry from our leader ;-)
Or maybe something from our captain, don't think I've heard anything from Hudson since he's been here.
Considering that Murrey has probably just missed out on millions of pounds, I'd have thought he's feeling a hell of a lot worse than we are!!

Its time to get behind the boy's.

Very telling use of past tense
what on earth does that mean?
even in the usual convolutions of football-speak, sounds like a very odd way to phrase a vote of confidence to me...
