Will be interesting to see what Pardew does. Think after swapping the team around so much last season he is desperate for Varney and Gray to work well together.
At home especially Yassin is so useful, shame Pardew seems to drop him after a few mistakes. He never gets a run so its not surprising he isn't improving.
The loan - players thing isn't working; didn't last season, won't this. Cut your losses Pardew. Build a team for promotion and beyond! Assume we will acquire Primus in january 09.
So for Tuesday go for :
Weaver Moutakil,Primus, Youga*, Basey * Fortune if fit Varney, Bailey, Holland,Shevey Dickson, Toderof.
It can't be worse than the mish-mash so far this season - lots of players but no team. Try it Pards!
Wasn't long ago I was thinking we won't get anyone better, but I just don't see Pardew improving us. The squad is his now - he either kept the players, signed them, or bought them through from the youth team. He seems to think we are better than we are. He's relying on Holland too much which was a problem last season, still waiting for players like Sam and Ambrose to come good, and spent a lot of money on players like Varney and Gray who still haven't been consistently good enough. Signings like Cranie are no better than what we have, talented players like Yassin, Racon (fair enough he got injured when he finally got a run) and Semedo seem to be the ones that never get a run in the team. They need to play regularly to improve.
If there's one thing I love more than CAFC, it's KCC and my days in the sun at Canterbury. Kent failed to blood one single youth player last season and with Walker and Dexter having left, we're going to pay a heavy price for that next summer. So give youth its chance. Kids may not win you titles, as has famously been said - but they've got ambition and drive and hunger and therefore give you far more than on-loan journeymen who would rather be somewhere else (Primus possibly excepted...)
One change i'd like to see explored is playing Basey alongside Bailey. I'd really like so see Bailey given a more attacking role and i can't think of anyone else in the team who could player alongside him as a midfield enforcer better than Basey. As others on here have spotted, Holland can be relied on to fill a hole from the bench but he simply lacks the physical presence to dominate a midfield.
The problem with playing Basey in midfield is that he's slower than my Nan. I agree we need someone to sit behind Bailey and let him be a bit more dynamic - unfortunately, what we need is... TWO Nicky Bailey's
If Semedo can keep himself on the pitch for more than five minutes at a time I'd like to see him deployed in midfield with Bailey. Other than that we need to make a change up front - Gray and Varney won't work together - I don't necessarily see this as Gray's fault, if he plays we need to play him with a 'real' striker, which Varney clearly ain't. I'd be inclined to drop Varney because, although he runs his nuts off every game, he just hasn't got the intelligence to be a striker and score regularly in this division. I'm not saying that either Dickson or McLeod HAVE - but at least they are proper strikers - Varney is a winger.
Cranie should never be seen in a Charlton shirt again - on my life he is shit. I've never seen a more overrated player - who clearly has ideas well above his station. He can f*** off back to Harry. I suspect part of the Primus deal was that Cranie has to play whenever fit - there can't be any other reason Pardew keeps picking him.

Agree with this. If Toddy is not fully fit though would go for Dicko.
C'mon Pards.....sort it out for us! ;-)
