I have been reading various threads today saying Jonjo should be in the team or at least on the bench. Now i'm sure that when i was advocating this the self same people were saying he is to young. It seems to some on here age is only a problem if we are doing well. If we are losing however age doesn't matter. I would just like to know your views. I'm of the opinion good enough old enough but within limits as not to burn him out

  • For what its worth uncle I think Jonjo should at least be getting involved from the bench. As everyone previously said we can`t expect him to produce a run of 20 games but I think that getting him in now might give the team a lift...God knows it needs one. The current players are for whatever reason not performing so give the likes of Jonjo and Basey and perhaps Dickson a crack of the whip. Whats to lose.
  • you know my opinion mate, god we are crying out for a bit of class. We haven't had anything since Reidy left,I can't believe we have let him go off when we need him so badly Pardew you are a disgrace.

I suppose the concern is now Uncle putting a young un into a side that is clearly playing with little confidence, when the crowd are not at their most supportive, and what impact that might have on his game.

However, i'm convinced that if he is signed up to a pro contract giving us watertight belief he is our player, and can't be snagged on the cheap, he would be more involved than he currently is.

Its a bit of a catch 22 at the mo.
  • whats the contract scenario then fellas ?
  • i stand corrected Unc,but I just dont know what is wrong this is so bad.

AFKA i understand what your saying but if you cant put him in a team doing poorly and you obviously cant put him in a team that is winning every week it just seems like there is no chance of breaking into the team. I really dont believe his contract is anything to do with him not being picked in fact i know it isn't.

Is it true he's already agreed to sign a pro contract once he's 17?

I'd like to see him involved more often. Again we had Semedo and Basey on the bench, don't see the need for both of them. Would rather have Jonjo or another striker there.

I cant possibly tell you about he's contract negotiations but i will tell you he is very happy at charlton and is very happy with the way they have treated him. Read into that what you like

Lol your welcome. It aint been a great day as it. And now that lucky sod is flying off to tenerife.
  • I Don`t begrudge him that. To be honest I can`t seem to get this takeover thing out of my mind. Its more important than our results for the moment.

Yeah but i worry if it all goes tits up this is gonna end up a very hard season
  • Might be an overeaction from me but if this Zabeel thing does go pear shaped then I think it could be a real body blow for Charlton and I don`t mean just this season. Would hit us from the board right down to fans like us.

I'm sure many on here would have liked to have seen Jonjo involved more than he has been.Nobody would expect him to play in every game, but a few appearances from the bench would have helped him and us.Unfortunately, like Dicko ,he cant even get on the bench now. Why, when we're not doing very good ,is Pards so reluctant to try something else. I dont get it.

BR thats exactly what i thought. Dont get me wrong i wouldn't dream of him playing all the time. But you gain experience from playing !!! You can only get that experience if you can get put on

I don't see Jonjo as a permanent fixture in the team for the age burn out reasons, but agree that he should be on the bench. At City Addicks Martin Simmons did say that we should not expect to see him play too much before his 17th birthday and contract signed, so the contract is at least in the boards head, if not Pards. Our big problem tough is that our strikers and midfield are not taking or making chances and there comes a time when a new tact needs to be taken. I suppose against Ipswich, the introduction of Todorov and Ambrose could well have been that different tact and Pards will stay with that for a few games. personally I would like to see Ambrose moved into the middle, not Holland in ZZ's absence, if that measn playing Sam then so be it. I would then have Dick on the bench, unless his training performances have meant that Pards no longer rates him, shelvey obviously is not around at the moment, so not sure who else can come on and give the game a bit of difference.

That's how we started last season, Ambrose just can't do enough defensively.

Our problem is one minute we (and I include Pardew in this) are questioning which full backs to use, the next whether Dickson is a better bet than Varney, then should Jonjo come in for Holland.

We still don't know our best bloody team - over a seaon after we droppped into the Championship.

And that's our biggest problem. We're just a selection of different players, and not a team.

It like Pardew's playing Championship Manager.

Thing is, I wouldn't want to see Pardew sacked. Mainly becuase I think it would cause major upheaval within the club. But why don't we seem to be able to get ANY consistency!!?

There are a lot of creative players playing central midfield that don't do enough defensively but other clubs manage. The difference between last season and this is Bailey.

Not sure I'd even call Ambrose creative, certainly not compared to someone like Reid. In some ways Bailey is more creative, don't see Ambrose spraying the ball around like Bailey has done at times when playing in the centre.

We could give him a go there now we have Bailey, but are we strong enough in midfield if say Sam played on the right and Bouazza on the left?
