Pardew on takeover

Well sort of. Obviously banned from talking about it too much

Alan Pardew is praying that a potential takeover at Charlton does not dent his side's chance of gaining promotion back into the Premier League. The Charlton boss is excited by the news that there could be a possible takeover after Dubai-based Zabeel Investments made an 'indicative offer' to take charge of the south London club.Pardew reveals the players have been given a major lift by the news and knows the Charlton fans will be dreaming of big things at the Valley again.

But the former West Ham boss is desperate to ensure that the club don't suffer a dip in form and let the speculation affect their chances of going for promotion.

Pardew encountered a similar situation when he was in charge at Upton Park when Kia Joorabchian was poised to takeover the club.

The news clearly affected the West Ham players as they suffered a major dip in form and Pardew admits he has learnt a great deal from that experience.

Pardew said: "I can only relate to my time at West Ham when Kia and his group were thinking about taking over West Ham.

"It didn't happen for a long period and then it never happened. You have to keep an open mind and one of the most important things for me is that I stay focused on my staff, the players and concentrate their minds on the job in hand.

"There were a lot of complications at West Ham with what amounted to two takeovers.

"I felt at that time there was some effect on the group and the club. I have looked at different scenarios at other clubs with takeovers and some have been very smooth and very quick as in Manchester City's case.

"I have got an open mind about it and I don't think any two scenarios are the same. We will deal with what comes along. There is obviously some news and I think that has buoyed the players. We have looked very sharp in training this week.

"We haven't banned the word 'takeover' from the players. I am sure they have mentioned in the changing rooms, but when they get on the training ground they are focusing on what is a really important game for us.

"Charlton fans as a rule of thumb have seen a number of key players leave the club since we were relegated. This news would have buoyed them that there is going to be some investment, which ever investor comes in but it is a long way off."

  • Great, thanks Pards for that. The master of the using a lot of words and saying very little strikes again!!
  • [cite]Posted By: KenTred[/cite]Doesnt the wise one realise that the players were sold to get the club's finances into a better state ready for a sale!

The wise one getting his excuses in first, dip in form (What form 2 wins in 7) = Takeover disrupted the team, improvement in form = What a god manager I (Pardew) am, got them winning despite the disruption of the takeover. Alan Pardew aster of spin.

What did you expect him to say, what is there that he's permitted to say?

No doubt the reporter has gone along to him - or lazily phoned him up - and asked him something on the lines of: "What do you think of the takeover bid, as you've been in this movie before with West Ham?:

Pards tells him what he tells him.

So the hack continues, "But that affected your team badly at the time, and undermined you and your players?"

So Pards replies, balancing out the West Ham/Charlton parallell by sayin his team looked sharp - and if the deal goes through, he shouldn't be forced to sell key players - to the disappointment of himself and supporters.

Of course, he's said very little in content. But then he is expressly forbidden by the terms of the Due Dilligence scenario.

What else did you expect him to say - or is just another cheap jibe at Pards just for the sake of it.....?
  • Mines a cheap jibe at pards for the sake of it!
  • I'll be interested to see if the takeover goes through how long it is before any new Regime sees right through our glorious leaders spin, my guess would be not very long.

bing, as someone who often goes into very lenghty posts yourself I find your statement quite strange.....that's more than a bit rich coming from you mate!!! Not that I dislike your posts I have to say.
Incidently, what he's said is perfectly true, speaking from his experience is it not...so what's your (and one or two others ) problem with that?
  • "a dip in form" is he taking the piss ?

More like doing a "Curbs" and marking out his escape if we loose AGAIN in the next couple of weeks.
  • Dip in form? Has the takeover been going on for the past two years haha
  • Don't see what's wrong with what is quoted there, and it is not as if he writes it anyway, somebody asks him questions and the writes, quite possibly with a few tweaks!

Had a bad day Oggy? As far as I can remember that's about the first jibe I've ever had a Pards.

I understand the point you're making about what he's allowed to say but my view, for what it's worth is if you haven't got anything meaningful to say, keep stum. His comments just seemed completely inane.
