Two goals in four away games

edited October 2008 in General Charlton
'You don't win games if you don't score goals' a sage (or fat ex-playing plundit) once said.

Not only have we scored two in four away from home, through the season so far, only Plymouth have registered less shots than us.

What changes would you make to make us a more creative or potent threat ?

Is it the strikers, is it the supply, what do you think ?

  • I think Zheng back in the midfield will help massively. He had a great record away from home last season (which is why a lot of fans get on his back imo as he scored most away and they didn't see it at home) and his creativty and lung busting runs to support the strikers give us an added dimension.
  • Maybe playing two up front would help
  • Playing one up front doesn't help does it.

But strikers are only as good as the service they get that much is tru.

I'd play Varney out wide and gray and toddy up front with Dickson to come on with 30 minutes. This lad obviously knows where the goals are as he is scoirng for the reserves - Sound as you can slag him as much as you like but he scores goals, so he must be knocking on the door.
  • I think that Zheng and Toddy will help, link up play is key and you can't have your main striker (if playing 1 up front) stranded. Will be interesting to see the team he puts out on Saturday, I think having Holland, ZZ and Bailey playing in the centre of a 5 man midfield could be useful, Varney on the right with Toddy up front, then can always be switched to 4-4-2 if needed.
  • the reason why I'm not actually going on Saturday, one up front does my head in esp when away to teams near the bottom (Forest & Palace). Decided to vote with my feet although I'll be at Ipswich and Brum.
  • Having Zheng and AMbrose back should make a big difference, we will at least double our away goals tally on Saturday :-)
  • He's not fit yet but McLeod coming off the bench. His pace and power made things happen last year even if he did miss too many chances.

The thing that I'd really like to see change is our set plays. Still think that we don't test to keeper enough from free kicks around the box or get the ball into a dangerous area from corners.

Can Zebeel buy us Ben Watson or the FA change the rules so we can bring SHelvey on for every corner.
