Dubai tycoon would rather buy Charlton than get Hammered

Dubai tycoon Mohammed Al Hashimi today insisted he would rather buy Charlton than West Ham.
Hashimi's company Zabeel Investments is in advanced negotiations about a £50 million takeover at the Valley, but have also been linked with a move for the Hammers, whose chairman Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson is under financial pressure due to the credit crunch.
Although Zabeel considered a number of English clubs before deciding to pursue Charlton, a spokesman for Hashimi today insisted that not even a phone call has been made to Upton Park since last Friday's announcement of “an indicative offer” for the south London club.
The spokesman added: “There is no truth to reports that Zabeel Investments made an approach to West Ham yesterday.
“Zabeel Investments has not approached any club since it made an indicative offer for Charlton Athletic last Friday, nor has it authorised any approach on its behalf.
“Zabeel Investments is currently in the due diligence phase of its offer to Charlton Athletic”
Gudmundsson, who was reported to have rejected Zabeel's interest, has seen his personal finances badly hit by the collapse of Landsbanki, Iceland's second-biggest bank, in which he was a large shareholder.
The fall-out has led to speculation that West Ham - which cost Gudmundsson £85million two years ago - could be sold.
Meanwhile, the Hammers are said to be close to securing a new £4m-a-year shirt sponsorship deal. The club have been without a sponsor since the collapse of travel company XL last month.
West Ham also plan to appeal to the High Court this week against the ruling that they must pay compensation to Sheffield United over the Carlos Tevez affair.
An independent tribunal ruled in United's favour last month, leaving West Ham open to a claim in excess of £30m from the Championship club. The club have also asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport to examine the decision.

[cite]Posted By: CHG[/cite]MCFC, where the Citeh fans this nervous before everything was signed sealed and delivered?
Nervous?
Hysterical rather...In the "It will all go tits up", "it´s just a smokescreen" mode.
Fact is that when "due diligence" is in place it takes a lot to void the deal because a memorandum of understanding will most likely have been signed already.
A MoU is like a pre-sale agreement, like when you buy a house on the provision that you get a loan or something.

I have two thoughts.
1. The journalist who came up with the 'Zabeel are interested in West Ham' must now be feeling very very stupid and
2. I wish we could ban all talk on here of Zabeel buying us out until a deal has actually been signed. Too many people seem to be getting far too carried away with something that might not happen.
[cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]That title is brilliant.
Just sit tight everyone. The process may take a while. Highly doubt this is going to be a Man Cityesque takeover which was done so quickly.
Depends on the number of people they have working on it I guess, the City deal was a bit complicated as it involved a lot of international agreements and contracts.
My guess is two weeks..we should start a book on it!

Not quite the right time to let him know that of course but would love at sometime in the future for us all to sign a petition requesting the board(whoever that will be!) to permanently ban him from The Valley.
The ****!
FFS calm down !! The Evening Gooner says there is no intrest in WHU and thats kosher ?????? this is the rag the gave us "Chris who" and all the other sh*t it dribbels out about CAFC . There is no more certanty in this rag than the other.
DD can take awhile or can be short even then who is to say Zebbel will make their choice strt away ?
Years back racing punters may remember that one of the racing papers slagged one of the maktoombs off so he brought the other and pumped money into it. So a warning to you lazy arsed hacks reading this WE AT CAFC HAVE VERY VERY VERY LONG MEMORIES and rest assured Mr Evening Gooner bastard when we get the dosh i just might have a quiet word with the top boy in Zeebel ! be nice to see you crawl out on ur knees to the centre circle at the Valley.
I wonder if tonights meeting was pulled because the deal is 'swift', appearing in their roles as Directors at this stage if they are very very shortly possibly to leave would be inappropriate for that reason never mind the legal takeover issues.
[quote][cite]Posted By: Ledge[/cite]isn't mascot an overseas fan as well.
Thank god he isn't in London he'd be camping on the doorstep of CAFC demanding the takeover go through before he has a coronary
Yeah im in Australia and quite frankly I should go to bed....
night you guys... Im sure ill wake to find forest are the next lot to have had extremely, extremely, disceet discussions in morse code with the king of Saudi arabia...... in the dark....
Yep - due diligence is an expensive business - lawyers, accountants, solicitors etc. You dont want to be doing them just for the fun of it, even if you are minted. In any case, West Ham will only be getting cheaper and cheaper as time passes - what would be the hurry?
