Tony Jimenez

edited October 2008 in General Charlton
anyone know anything about this guy ? Was Newcastle's Director of Player Recruitment until he left on Thursday to persue other avenues. Then he pops up as being involved in the Zabeel deal. He was the guy who arranged for Ashely to meet Zabeel in Dubai but Ashley didn't go as Zabeel were not willing to go over 300m. Alledgly the guy who brokered the Ramos to Spurs deal. In a report I read yesterday he was lined up to be Chief Exec for us when the deal goes through. Seems like he has fingers in lots of pies. Bit worrying imo.

  • Was worried about this. Didn't get along well with the Newcastle fans. Then someone reminded me he did sign two of their best players Collocini and Gutiérrez, and Newcastle fans have just been totally against Ashley/Wise etc as they are still deluded about the return of "King" Kev.

He has obviously has a lot of contacts. IF this whole thing goes through and he comes on board, I'd expect us to sign some promising talents from abroad which otherwise we'd never had looked at.
  • As long as we don't get KK as manager...

No need to worry, Weegie ..... we've got Pards.

    ;o)
  • And even I would rather keep him than have KK!
  • As I said elsewhere all the papers who had not a sniff of this story until we broke it suddenly know who's going to be the new CEO, the price, the budget, the names of the new stands and which direction the urinals will face.

Or are they just making it all up?

Salt, pinch, of, take, a, with.

Re-arrange these words to create a well known phrase to be used when reading such speculation. When Matt Wright tells me on the OS then I'll believe it.
  • The OS carried the story only an hour or so after the media broke the story - a lot quicker than we're used to with the matchday 'Live Updates'.

Steady guys, don't spoil your reputation!

    ;o)
  • again let's not speculate until it is done.
  • [cite]Posted By: Ledge[/cite]again let's not speculate until it is done.

Where' the fun in that. Ledge? C'mon, can't we enjoy it for however long it lasts? :-)
  • yeah enjoy the good parts of speculating -0 Large is doom mongering before it has happened
  • In our current search for a new manager I would imagine that we have an ace up our sleeve in Tony. He is widely regarded as footballs "Mr.Fixit" and is said to be one of the best networkers and salesmen in the business. I doubt there is anyone better at being able to sell the club and vision to any managerial candidate. Hope he can work his magic in persuading our preferred target to come or if necessary jump ship.

  • We've got our very own spin doctor, style over substance rules. Leaves me wondering why we need him unless it's just someone who's savvy at drawing in new customers.

Says he will advise on ''strategic and corporate PR and high-profile announcements''. With all respect to the OS guys and in-house team, no harm in having a heavy-hitter on board, I would have thought...

He won't come cheap so I'd like to read it is another indication that the new owners have both serious ambitions for the club - and real money.

Very true, little old Charlton don't need a spin doctor, especially in League One.

Going to be interesting times ahead that's for sure.
  • I very much doubt that Mr McGarahy, who has his own thread, BTW, will be concerned with the interests of the club, as we know it, but with the interests of the new owners. His main role will be to defend and protect the intransparent ownership structure. So for example he will be the brick wall that Matt Scott at the Guardian ("Digger") is probably running up against. That after all is where his experience lies, not in 'brand' PR, which is where the OS and communications with us the great unwashed, is categorised.

So I think we should treat him with some caution.

All that said, NLA made a good point on the McGarahy thread, that at least he has built a career in high quality business circles, which may suggest that the new owners are genuine heavy hitters, as opposed to Sebastian Sainsbury types.
  • So his role is essentially to ensure that the club doesn't get into the situation where it might need spin doctors?

As PA says his role is more protecting the image (or non-image in this case) of his clients either by keeping them out of the news or dealing with any awkward questions from the press ie Digger at the Guardian, rather than communicating with the customer base.
