Should we now expect an upturn in forthcoming Performances.

edited October 2008 in General Charlton
I Haven't really posted my thoughts on the takeover speculation as i'd rather wait and see what the outcome might be.

Should we now expect better results with more consistency, will this also bring back a much better NEEDED atmosphere with the current speculation linking the club with new invetors.

Will this bring out more enthusiasm from the squad.

I Hope so but does it work like that.

I think that this will be a real test of character, assuming the deal goes through. For some players they will see it as a challenge and will rise to to it, for others it will undermine their confidence with the expectation that they will be replaced in the January window. It is also a test for Pardew to keep players motivated that are fearful that they may be off loaded in January or even just confined to the stiffs. A positive reaction will mean we are still in with a shout for promotion, a negative reaction will mean that the players will have it all to do.

Then in January, an influx of better paid, better quality players coming in could create dis harmony in the dressing room. Whilst exciting the times ahead are by no means all rosy. Remember Curbishleys buys when he joined West Ham - Lucas Neil of £40,000 per week, don't think team spirit at West Ham has really recovered from buys like that.
  • What Kap said
  • That's a great point Badger. The prospects of what could be achieved by this takeover is mouth watering, but until it's signed, sealed and delivered I’m cautious as well.
If I was the manager or player at the club I would definitely be looking for more from myself, because I’d know that at any point I could be seen as surplus to requirements.
The new owners are definitely not going to accommodate complacency or mediocrity, so as kap said it will highlight the character of everyone at the club, and that must be a good thing.
  • All this speculation, whilst understandable, is making my brain ache. It seems to me that from the little we know, the model we will be following will be that of a slow build. Realistically our chances of promotion this season remain on the outside. If you are comparing with West Ham, they went for some huge panic buys throwing, huge amounts of cash at the problem. Assuming the deal goes through, I see some non panic buys in the window, not wholesale changes.

Lets not forget that unlike say QPR, we already have a great ground with permission to go bigger, we have a fantastic world class community set up, we have a decent youth set up with an excellent training ground. All these things will have been part of the package we offer as a club and apparently are some of the key reasons why they have decided to "purchase" us. So steady as she goes with some funds available for a promotion push in January but no panic by throwing shed loads of money at it.
  • The best eleven players don't generally produce the best team, so I can't see wholesale changes.

A couple of judicious signings to strengthen a promotion push, maybe ...... but I don't believe we're poised to snatch Rooney & Ronaldo in a double deal in January.

Unless it's a part exchange deal for Youga & Gray.
  • i think the players at the club now, will be well aware that their is an oportunity of earning big money in the forth coming seasons, a club will never change a whole starting 11at the same time and those that perform to their best will be rewarded with bigger contracts and the chance to play with some potentially huge names, and those who thought the had got themselves a cushy little number at se7, may now have to start playing to get a move, the young players will be bouyed by the comments of the new owners about young up and coming home grown talent.

the biggest change will be in pards the pressure will be on big time to get us into contention or he wont be the man given the dosh,if pards is sucessful i reckon they might give him a chance if we were to go up,

i reckon the team will now push on and this might have been the kick up the arse required
