Now we know why the launderette and solicitors office have been demolished on the corner of Floyd Road/Charlton Church Lane:
Extract from the Evening Standard:
Proposals for a new hotel and leisure complex opposite The Valley football stadium was refused outline planning permission, as Floyd Royd and Harvey Gardens were hurriedly designated a conservation area.
However,The London Borough of Greenwich planning department has secretly approved an application
from Zabeel Investments for a new hotel in Charlton Church Lane.
After a little searching on Google under
"Zabeel eyes $1bn investment in UK hotels", I found this link:

The Charlton Church Lane Hotel - 5 stars
Charlton, London, SE7 (Show map)
Ideally located in elegant Charlton, the heartbeat of London football, overlooking Charlton railway station and within easy walking distance of The Valley, this 5-star hotel will be London’s finest monument to Arab football investment.
The hotel will have a large selection of well appointed bedrooms, all of which will be tastefully decorated in red & white, making them ideal for sleeping off a hangover after celebrating yet another Addicks' victory.
Comments
Especially their Saturday edition.
I did manage to find this report in the UAE press, The National.
The National
It's probably the most comprehensive report yet covering the history of Dubai's pursuit of an English football club. One section I found interesting was the bit relating to the future redevelopment of the area around Charlton:
"The club’s ground, The Valley, however is in the affluent London borough of Greenwich, an area which could play a key role in the London 2012 Olympic Games and potentially offer Zabeel and its property development arm, some promising land on which to expand the stadium or build prime real estate."
How much more leverage interms of gaining planning permission would the successful ownership of Charlton give Zabeel investments?
It gives them a powerbase and a lot of contacts with all the right people..add that they got access to hard cash during a financial crises and finally throw in the glamour of the Maktoums of Dubai and I can see a lot of doors opened to them.
