If Darren is reading this then i hope he isn't upset by a few pointed comments after a derby defeat. What he should be upset over though is his failure to nail down a regular first team place or even a best position in over three years at the club. Seriously i think the guys got talent and i think he suffered by being put on the left wing so often in the past but this season he really needs to carve out a position at this club either as an attacking central midfielder or right winger and make it his own. If he can do that he'll silence the critics and probably kick start our season.
It does crack me up when people who don't even bother to watch the match or leave 5 minutes before the end because it's cold then whine about the players' lack of commitment. If they had the commitment of some of our support we'd be playing with 7 men by the time the whistle went.
Morts the big difference is the fans pay good money to come and go when they like, unlike the players who get paid good money, that sould be motivation enough for the players.
Anyone who knows anything about football wouldn't doubt his talent. However rather than just showing it in flashes, he needs to perform on a consistant basis. Hopefully now that he's got his injury sorted out he will start showing that consistancy. However he's not a player I would start with in a tough away fixture in this division. He would be far more effective coming on as a sub in such games.
[quote][cite]Posted By: kinveachyaddick[/cite]I think the main problem with Ambrose as others have alluded to is nobody seems to know his best position.
Don't think Curbs did, PArdew doesn't seem and I'm not sure he even would know himself.
Has anyone ever asked him at a fan's do or similar?

I sponsored his kit a couple of years ago, and the first question I asked during the end-of-season bash was "Which position do you prefer playing?". His answer, without hesitation, was central midfield, behind the strikers - which is where he played so successfully in the England U-21 team.
Remember the goal he scored against Man Utd when Darren Bent set him up?
He was just behind the strikers then. We could do a lot worse than try that again, perhaps bolstering the midfield with Semedo to give it a bit more steel.
Zheng, Ambrose, Bailey, Semedo, Varney might work with Gray up there on his own and Zheng, Ambrose and Varney given licence to bomb forward.
Basically it says Ipswich want to sign Ambrose on the cheap in January. His contract is up at the end of the season and Charlton haven't offered him a new one he thinks because of his injury record.
I think we should offer him a new one on Championship money, which certainly must mean a pay cut for him.

It's a fair point, but I think we the crowd have a role in creating an atmosphere and I like to think that we can have some small influence. I've never heard a player or pundit suggest that not having a noisy crowd behind you doesn''t help. I do think that if you are specifically complaining that players lack motivation or commitment, but can't be bothered to support the team through thick and thin then you're on dodgy ground, though as paying customers you're right people can do what they like. They're, IMO, letting themselves and other fans down in bailing out.
With regards to Ambrose we know he has good games & real talent in him, Ipswich at home last year he run the show & had won us the game before Halt time. Personally I'd prefer him in the team to Lloyd Sam who for me brings nothing to the table. I think Ambrose's Goals Tally & assists tally were up there with the best of them last season.

They probably do though, most people would I guess..

Best performance from him last season was Ipswich at home when he played through the middles of the striker(s)
can't remember if we were 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 that day?

No I can't work it either.

but out wide isn't a position that suits him and he isn't a great defender which is a problem when he needs to help out the full back.
IMHO
Indeed he did. Got a lot of class but not a natural defender.
